I think that one of the most gut-wrenching feelings you can experience is when you discover your pet is missing. Pets are arguably one of the most important parts of any happy family, which is exactly why they’re just about everywhere. In Illinois, a woman met with the worst possible turn of events when she discovered the PetSmart she had taken her cat to had actually lost the pet. Now, she’s seeking answers from both the store and the people who likely took her cat.
The above video was posted to the TikTok account @wayn3sw0r1d, which typically posts about her everyday life. This time around, things were a little different when she announced that a PetSmart in Evanston/Skokie, Illinois, had reportedly lost her cat, Delilah.
According to her story, the original poster was going on vacation with her family and decided to have her cat boarded at a nearby PetSmart. Everything went perfectly fine until the time came to pick up her feline friend, only to discover that it was the wrong one. When they returned to PetSmart to resolve the issue, they were told that the cat had actually been given to a different family two days earlier.
Who takes a cat for two days without realizing that it isn’t theirs? Well, the original poster got the police involved and returned the wrong cat to its family, but couldn’t get her own cat back. According to the couple who took the wrong cat, they have no idea where she could have been, and didn’t allow officers to check the house.
Illinois PetSmart Allegedly Gives Cat to Wrong Family
The comments immediately filled up with people trying to offer legal advice because at the end of the day, it really is a weird situation. In fact, PetSmart responded to the video, letting her know they would reach out to her. To this, she responded with, “find my cat!! she’s been missing for 4 days when she should’ve been safe in your care.”
Other people were jumping to conclusions and saying that she should sue the company. However, many people focused on the family who took the wrong cat in the first place, with one person saying, “call the police, if they had your cat and arent allowing you to look they probably still have it.” Another person even said, “They stole your cat. Animals are considered property in all but one us state so I’d be calling the cops. I recently had to call the military police to get my cat back from a crazy neighbor.”
In a more recent update, the original poster explained that trail cameras have been set up and even posted a conversation she had with the family that was given her cat. Hopefully, she can reunite with Delilah soon.
