There is a lot to be said for people in the world who really do choose to go above and beyond what they’re expected to do. This is especially so if it’s for someone you don’t even know to begin with. A woman from Santa Barbara, California, shared her story about how the District Attorney’s office’s White Elephant gift of nearly a decade turned into a massive donation towards her husband’s cancer journey. There really are some good people out in the world.

The above video was posted to the TikTok account @kluver4life, belonging to a woman who typically posts about her life and other things she enjoys. Things were a little different this time around when she decided to share a true story that happened between her and the District Attorney’s office in Santa Barbara.

Apparently, the woman who posted the video had purchased a blanket with her family’s pictuer on it almost a decade ago, and it got sent to the District Attorney’s office by accident. So, for nearly a decade since it was received, the office has been using it as a White Elephant gift amongst one another.

This year, the office decided to look up who the family on the blanket was to discover that it belonged to Casey Kulver, who has been struggling all year with his cancer diagnosis. After making the discovery, they decided to get a fund together and make a massive donation towards Casey’s GoFundMe page and returned the blanket.

The family was absolutely overwhelmed by the gesture, and couldn’t have been more grateful. People in the comments of the video felt the same, with one person even saying, “This was not accident. This was meant to happen. ❤️The universe works in mysterious ways when you need it the most. ❤️” The office even took photos of the blanket to commemorate the occasion of when they finally returned it.

Other comments even went a little bit further with the idea and suggested that the original poster gift a blanket to the District Attorney’s office, saying, “you should put the group pictures of you and them holding the blanket on a new blanket and send it back them so they can continue using it in their secret santa.” Now that the family has the blanket back, I can only imagine the new memories they’ll likely make with it throughout this journey.
