A troubling discovery in New York has residents on edge. Concerns tend to rise whenever police equipment or uniforms go missing, largely because of the risk that someone could impersonate an officer. That fear has only grown following what authorities recently uncovered. An abandoned box filled with NYPD uniforms was found spilling out onto the street near Greenwood Cemetery, at the corner of 37th Street and Ninth Avenue. Officers responded to the scene and confirmed that the uniforms were authentic and belonged to real NYPD personnel.
At this time, it remains unclear how the uniforms ended up there or who left them behind. Police have also not determined whether any of the uniforms were misused. As a result, the investigation remains ongoing.
In the video shared of the discovery in New York, you could see the box on the pavement as an officer was inspecting it. In another shot, the clothes were spread out. With gloves on their hands, several NYPD officers started checking the clothes. After a while, the officers brought black plastic bags and proceeded to collect the discarded uniforms. This short video was enough to leave citizens worried, especially since the uniforms could have gotten into the wrong hands.
People Reacting to Police Uniforms Being Found in New York
New York residents were left terrified by the NYPD uniforms that were discovered. There were a lot of possibilities on how the uniforms were used, and most of them were scary. This is why one woman wrote, “This made my stomach sink!!! Definitely not good.” Another person then replied, “Yep this is bad. Someone had full intentions of using these. But why and why were they dumped?” The answer is still unknown. More people believed that this was a threat to New Yorkers as one person wrote, “Not abandoned…strategically placed.” Someone else warned people and said, “They said sleeper cells would dress as first responders if an attacker were to happen and this is not a good sign.”
Others started guessing what could happen next, as one person predicted that there wouldn’t be camera footage in that area. “NYC has cameras on every block…except that one,” they wrote. Another person believed that the timing was weird, especially since Zohran Mamdani was just sworn in. “The government creating a scheme and gone blame Mamdani. Watch, mark my words,” they said. For some reason, several people blamed Biden for this as one person wrote, “This is ALL Biden’s fault. Period.” Another person said, “but he allowed millions to come into our country unchecked! This is 100% the entire Biden administrations fault!” Hopefully, these uniforms weren’t used to harm innocent people.
