Like a skipping stone, what happened in Minnesota has caused ripples across the nation. From protests to concerned citizens, many people have been angered by the current events, and everyone has been affected. However, one of the things that branched from what happened in Minneapolis reached a hotel that was previously part of the Hilton brand. If you didn’t know, that hotel was dropped by Hilton after it denied entry to ICE and DHS members. Since this shocked many people, some citizens in Dallas, Texas, are now joining the Hilton boycott, starting with one iconic hotel in the city.
The Statler, a known hotel from the Hilton brand, has come under fire after what happened in Lakeview, Minnesota. If you don’t know the first part of the story, a hotel known as Hampton Inn refused entry to ICE and DHS agents. To prevent the issue from escalating, Hilton quickly dropped the hotel from its system, canceling bookings and removing it from the brand entirely. While this might have been a smart decision from Hilton, it didn’t look great in the eyes of some individuals who are now taking the boycott to other states in the country.
As you can see in the pictures above, someone has been placing signs in front of The Statler, including one that reads, “Hilton has killer rates.” This is referencing the recent unfortunate events that occurred in Minneapolis, and also alluding to Hilton’s statement where the brand mentioned, “Hilton is -and has always been- a welcoming place for all.”
With how ICE is acting around the country, this comment didn’t land as the brand might have expected, with many users already talking about taking their business and bookings elsewhere. At first, the issue was exclusive to Minnesota, but it has now spread to other cities, meaning Hilton might have to do more damage control at its other hotels.
In any case, many Redditors supported the person’s actions to put up those signs.
“Stunning and brave,” commented one user.
“I won’t be staying at Hilton anymore,” commented another Redditor.
Besides the sign, some people have already started hitting The Statler’s review scores by putting bad reviews on the hotel’s Google Page, which you can see here. It is unclear whether this boycott will continue to expand, but given the situation and people’s anger, we doubt it will stop anytime soon.
