Chaons continues to surround the self-driving cars. From these vehicles colliding with others, ignoring traffic laws, and pulling all sorts of shenanigans, there’s no shortage of situations involving these cars. A recent one, however, shows something that we never thought would happen. In Texas, the first case of a Waymo being ticketed has occurred. Yes, even if this car didn’t have a driver and was allegedly obeying all the laws for once, it still got a ticket, leading many people to wonder if this is even possible.

The video comes from the passenger who took the Waymo vehicle that day. According to OP, the Waymo car parked to pick them up, but a parking enforcer was already circling the car. As the OP entered, this enforcer in Texas began taking pictures of the passenger and issued a ticket to Waymo. Since the OP wasn’t okay with their picture being taken, they decided to record the situation, which just got more chaotic by the minute.

First, it is strange to see a parking enforcer writing a ticket for a self-driving vehicle. Then again, as you can hear in the video, the enforcer claims he only needs the license plate, not the driver, to issue the ticket. Part of why he says this, however, is because another person enters the frame and starts arguing with the enforcer. It is unclear as to why this individual got into the conflict, but well, that’s how some people are.

The OP then mentioned in the post that they contacted Waymo, who reviewed the footage, and said the company would handle this ticket conundrum. Still, according to the one who recorded everything, this looked like a strange situation. For starters, the OP says the Waymo car wasn’t in a forbidden parking spot or breaking any laws, which makes other Redditors wonder whether the enforcer just had to meet a quota and randomly issued a ticket to this vehicle.

“He saw an easy mark for his quota,” said Sandurz.

“Dude was just going for low-hanging fruit, but that ticket is probably going to be waived. He’s accomplishing nothing aside from wasting a whole bunch of people’s time,” commented Shopworn_Soul.

In the end, it is unknown what happened with the ticket and this Waymo vehicle. Yet, by the looks of it, the situation seemed a bit strange. While self-driving cars have indeed broken many rules and caused chaos in the city, this is one of the few situations where it didn’t cause trouble, and it still got a ticket for it.
