Despite there being no race, some drivers can get pretty competitive while out on the road. Even if it’s to simply merge into a turn, certain people feel like they just need to be faster than everyone else, even for just a few seconds. Unfortunately for one individual in California, those few seconds turned into a van bashing into their left mirror, leaving several notable scratches and dents. The driver, who claimed to have been a DOD worker with clearance, decided to share their roadcam video on Reddit to blame the van. Their plan backfired, though, when comments started slamming the cammer instead.
Posting to r/Roadcam, the driver shared a video of a large white van merging into another lane behind without blinkers before heading onward for the merging turn ahead. The California cammer merged into the van’s lane before it could move ahead, causing it to push over into the grassy curb before zooming past, knocking out the driver’s side mirror with it. Clearly feeling justified to blame the van’s driver for the accident, OP declared: “When you go for a gap that’s no longer there….” as their punchline.
Unfortunately, very few people sympathized with the cammer. Many admit the van was foolish for trying to speed past after forgetting to use blinkers. However, the fact that the cammer merged into the lane to the left so quickly without even bothering to check if another vehicle was there is outrageous. “Which one are you talking about?” asked a top commenter, referring to OP’s ‘punchline.’ “Because that van was fully in the left lane when the front car decided to turn.”
Hundreds of others agreed, saying the accident was OP’s fault. “Could 100% avoid this by just watching the car come over,” remarked one user. “What’s the point of using your blinker if you start changing lanes in a millisecond??” exclaimed a second. “You are unambiguously at fault here,” accused a third. “Both are idiots but cammer at fault,” added a fourth.
Patience can be a rare resource out on roads packed with impatient drivers, and all it took was a few seconds of selfish entitlement for both the van and especially the California cammer to cause quite a mess.
