Heartless California Emergency Vet Clinic Refused to Save Dog Dying in Owner’s Arms Because of Cutoff Time: ‘I Begged Them To Save Her Life, They Refused’

Five minutes chosen over a precious pet’s life

No one likes working past the clock, and few would disagree with that. But to stick with a “cutoff” schedule over the life of someone else’s pet is downright heartless, if not intentionally cruel. That said, a pet owner in Los Angeles, California, was trying to save Nova, their dog, who had been poisoned and needed immediate medical attention. They were referred to a local vet clinic that advertised being open until midnight with “Walk-in Emergency Services.” However, when the owner tried to bring Nova to the clinic, they refused her because their cutoff time for accepting pets was 6:00 PM.

“I begged them to save her life. They refused,” the owner tragically recalled in their post on r/legaladvice. “They chose a 5-minute head start on their evening over the life of a dog who had been my world for years.” For context, the owner called the clinic at 5:25 PM and told them it would take around 40 minutes to arrive by Uber. But staff responded by saying they “stopped taking animals at 6:00,” so even though the owner would arrive just five minutes late, they refused. “Because they wouldn’t wait 300 seconds, Nova ended up passing away in my arms on my kitchen floor,” OP sadly writes.

[CA] A local "Emergency" Vet turned away my dying dog for a "6:00 cutoff." Now they are threatening to sue me for my Google Review.

Heartbroken, the pet owner wrote a Google Review about the clinic, going over the entire story of Nova’s tragic fate because the staff cared more about their closing time. If that wasn’t sad enough, things unfortunately get even worse. “Now they are threatening to sue me for my Google Review,” the owner explains; the clinic says the review is defamation and is trying to forcibly have it deleted. This clarifies why OP has posted their story on r/legaladvice since a potential lawsuit is now involved.

Reddit Wonders If OP Left Out Any Key Points From Their Tragic Story

“Your story is outrageous and I would never trust a vet that refused a medical emergency over 5 minutes,” remarked a shocked commenter. “If your account is 100% true, then they would not succeed in a lawsuit,” added another. Dozens of other Redditors said more or less the same thing: if this is all true, the clinic deserves every bad review and should get nothing from suing.

However, many are skeptical that OP is leaving out some key facts or twisting things based on their perspective. But in the end, Nova never got the life-saving treatment she deserved, and that’s still the saddest part of this pet story.
