A student at Carrboro High School in North Carolina sparked alarm over the lockdown caused by gunshots ringing out near the campus grounds. “I was so confused about everything when we randomly heard gunshots from the woods,” said the teen, who goes by frrygood on Reddit. According to Chapelboro, two teenagers were arrested with no reported injuries, but that didn’t stop thousands of online users from reacting in horror at the story.

Frrygood uploaded a photo to r/teenagers that showed them sitting on the floor while their classroom was on lockdown. Once they heard the gunshots outside, they said they immediately ran to the nearest classroom, but were concerned about their missing brother. “God save us all,” they concluded.

Hundreds in the post’s comment sections expressed their shock over Carrboro High School’s situation. “I can’t believe this just happens in America,” remarked one commenter in disbelief.  “Oh my god im so sorry, america is so backwards in gun laws,” exclaimed another. Others from other countries, including the UK and those in Europe, shared how they also experienced drills and heard horror stories of murderous students.

Needless to say, plenty of people were concerned about the whereabouts of OP’s brother, sharing their hopes that he would be alright. While frrygood did not add any comments or updates to their post about their missing sibling, it’s safe to say that he’s likely alright, based on the police reports claiming no injuries or casualties.

There Were No Reported Injuries or Casualties at Carrboro High School

It should be noted that, thankfully, no shots were fired on school grounds, according to Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools. The teenagers face felony and misdemeanor charges over their illegal possession of a handgun, but neither of them opened fire on any of the high school students.

Even though no one was hurt, many Reddit users questioned how this sort of issue could be prevented. Some advocated heavy restrictions on all weapons, while others claimed they wanted armed school faculty.

CNN reports there have already been over 20 gun violence incidents at schools in the US. It’s been an ongoing issue for years, and unfortunately, no clear solution has yet to be found.
