With anti-ICE protests on the rise, there has been a lot of tension recently. It’s possible that protesters would make a mistake when trying to identify ICE agents in public. This is what happened in North Carolina as several ICE protesters started harassing an innocent man. Apparently, the type of his vehicle and how he looked convinced them that he was an ICE agent. The man was kind enough to prove them wrong. He noted that he didn’t have to clarify the situation, but was willing to do so, hinting that he wasn’t an agent. Following this, he proceeded to open his trunk to show the protesters that he didn’t have any ICE related equipment. That was when one of the protesters noted that the man only had a lot of cameras with him and nothing else.
The North Carolina man then repeated that he tried to tell this to the first woman who confronted him. Anyone else would have likely been furious if they were stopped by protesters demanding that they prove they weren’t ICE agents. The man, however, was kind as he told them that he respected what they were doing. Another woman then asked him if he was there yesterday and he answered yes. From the entire situation, it looked like he was a media person.
Rather than let him go, the same woman from the group of protesters told him that he shouldn’t have a vehicle such as the one he has. He explained that he can’t help it. Instead of understanding that, she had the audacity to tell him to go and rent another car. As more protesters kept talking to him about his recent whereabouts, he asked them to “wrap this up.” That was when the video ended. They shouldn’t have confronted him like that or surrounded his vehicle as if he were a criminal. If he were an ICE agent, he most likely wouldn’t have been this calm.
People Reacting to the North Carolina ICE Protesters Harassing the Man
People, especially those who were against the protesters, were quite upset by what happened in North Carolina. Almost everyone believed that they had no right to do this. Some even claimed that the protesters were being hypocritical as they did the exact same things they accused ICE agents of doing. “So protesters are illegally detaining citizens?” one person asked. Another person said, “so THEY’RE stopping him to determine who he is and where he’s from….lol.” This made someone joke and say, “Noticed how he complied?!” One TikTok user then joined the conversation and added, “Yeah, he complied because he knows how crazy the left is. I wouldn’t want to get attacked by five people because their feelings are hurt and they don’t have a safe corner to cry in.”
More people came after the North Carolina protesters as one person said, “So now regular people are doing what they’re accusing ICE of doing and harassing them? They’re out of control.” This made another person reply, “that are committing acts of fascism while accusing Trump of being you can’t make this up‼” One woman then asked in disbelief, “Did they seriously tell him to go rent a different car? Omg.” Someone else wrote, “Wait, so a mob is profiling a guy, trying to make him identify and prove himself? I thought they were against this.” One TikTok user also said, “so, they stopped him because he looked a certain way, detained him, questioned him, searched his car and don’t see the irony…” It’s a good thing that the situation didn’t escalate.
