A man in California left a Subway restaurant feeling unsettled after he noticed something unusual mixed into the ice in his drink. According to the customer, he had gone to the fast food chain to order a beverage and decided to take a closer look at the ice inside the cup before drinking it. What he noticed next immediately put him on high alert.
Frozen within the ice were dark, black-colored substances that looked embedded rather than floating freely. The pieces varied in size, with some appearing as small specks while others were larger and more solid-looking.
What stood out most was that the black substances appeared to be trapped inside the frozen ice itself rather than resting on the surface. This suggested that the material may have already been present before the ice fully froze. To get a clearer look, the customer poured the contents of the cup into a nearby container, which allowed the ice to spread out and made the dark particles easier to see.
The Staff’s Alleged Response
After making the discovery, the customer said he brought the issue to the attention of the Subway employee who had served him the drink. According to him, the worker did not acknowledge that anything was wrong and appeared to act “oblivious” despite the visible black material in the ice. He also claimed that the employee refused to issue a refund.
Ultimately, the customer threw the drink away and left the restaurant.
As of now, it remains unclear what the black material inside the ice actually was. However, one netizen in the comments section under the customer’s TikTok post suggested that the particles appeared to be “mold.” Others focused less on identifying the substance and more on the potential health risk, with one person commenting, “I would had [sic] said something that’s how people get sick.”
