Many people who oppose ICE have long argued that its actions don’t only impact immigrants, but U.S. citizens as well. That claim gained renewed attention after what happened to a U.S. citizen in Minnesota, a Black woman who shared a tearful video describing her encounter with ICE.

In the video, she explained that she had been shopping inside an African store when several ICE agents suddenly entered through the back. According to her, they immediately approached her and grabbed her by the shirt simply because she was Black. She said they never asked for identification or questioned her status. Instead, the agents allegedly grabbed her from behind, with one of them holding onto her hand.

Her account quickly sparked outrage, with many pointing to it as an example of how ICE encounters can affect American citizens as well.

My encounter with ICE. Those ppl don’t act like humans, and will not treat you like one! They’re not verifying anything. Plz be safe out there

The Minnesota woman repeatedly stressed that the ICE agents never asked her any questions or requested her ID before grabbing her. Still visibly shaken, she continued describing the encounter, saying the agents also grabbed another woman inside the store. “They don’t give a [expletive] if you have documents,” she said, pointing to her own experience as proof.

She went on to warn store owners to keep their back doors closed, explaining that this was how the ICE agents entered the shop. The woman also urged people of color to avoid being outside unless absolutely necessary, saying they were being targeted. The incident appeared deeply traumatizing, as she kept repeating what had happened to her while trying to process it in real time.

The victim also claimed that two of the ICE agents inside the store were “foreigners,” describing them as a “Hispanic” man and a “Black guy.” While it isn’t unusual for Black or Hispanic agents to work for ICE, the detail stood out to her. “This is the great America everybody want to come to,” she added bitterly.

In a later video, the woman shared footage from inside the African store and provided more context. According to her caption, ICE was looking for someone else but mistakenly grabbed her instead, only realizing afterward that she was not their target. She said this showed that agents were still detaining people without first identifying them.

In the same video, two men could be seen confronting an ICE agent, who demanded that they “respect” him. Throughout the recording, the woman could be heard crying. The entire situation left viewers disturbed, with many agreeing that no one should have to go through an experience like that.

People Reacting to the Minnesota Woman’s Encounter With ICE

Dozens of people expressed sympathy for the Black Minnesota woman and outrage over what happened to her. Many felt she was targeted solely because of her skin color. “It’s an attack on Brown and Black population,” one person wrote. Another agreed, adding, “They started with Latinos to end it with the Blacks. They know how not to make it look racist! Brown and Blacks are being targeted!”

Others were even more direct in calling it racism. “Because immigration is the excuse. Racism is the reality,” one commenter said. Another echoed that sentiment, writing, “It’s not about citizenship. They are bringing back the 1960s.”

One TikTok user pushed the comparison even further, replying, “Nah, go back further. This ain’t the Gestapo. This is homegrown violence, and these are slave patrollers.”

The comments reflected how deeply shaken people were by the incident and how strongly many viewed it as part of a broader pattern rather than an isolated event.

More internet users shared how deeply upset they were over what happened to the Minnesota woman. Because the agents never asked to see her ID, many believed the encounter proved that ICE never truly cared about documentation in the first place. “It was NEVER about documents, NEVER‼‼‼” one person wrote. Another echoed that belief, saying, “It’s about color, not citizenship.”

Some commenters argued that stronger action was needed in response to ICE’s behavior. “Minnesota needs to go on strike, stop working, stop spending money, stay at home, only shop for essentials at locally owned shops,” one person urged. Others went further, saying they would never forgive anyone who voted for Trump, blaming his administration for enabling what they believe is happening now.

For many watching these events unfold in real time, the situation felt devastating and heartbreaking rather than political theory, reinforcing how personal and traumatic these encounters can be.
