Life has been getting increasingly hard for Americans who are either targeted by ICE and Border Patrol agents or who try to protect their neighbors from them. A highway patrol officer recently pulled over a Migra Watch volunteer in California under the pretense that she was stalking someone. The woman was even taken to a police station to sort out the situation, which at least ended amicably.
In the video shared by the activist, she can be seen inside a car while being pulled over by a California Highway Patrol officer. The man says that she was reported for “stalking” someone, and that the accusers are “afraid for themselves.” The California woman denies the accusations and asks the officer whether she was being pulled over for any traffic infraction. The officer stops for a second, thinks, and then walks around the car, hoping to find an infraction. When he finally returns, he says that her car doesn’t have a front license plate. Curiously, the officer’s car does not have one, either.
By the end of the video, the woman can be seen at the police station, where the CHP is talking to Border Patrol agents while they continue to ignore her questions. While the situation at least did not end in violence or with her arrest, it was clear that the agents got what they wanted: forcing the Migra Watch activist to stop following them and protecting the neighborhood.
Social Media Users Slam California Highway Patrol Officer’s Shady Conduct
The California Highway Patrol officer’s actions were heavily criticized on social media, with most users agreeing that his conduct did not follow correct procedures, while others were angered by the bogus “stalking” accusations. One commenter affirmed that it was “insane that a CHP officer would take the “stalking” charge seriously” because to actually violate the law, a person needs to follow, harass, and threaten someone, putting the “the alleged victim in reasonable fear for his or her safety.” According to the commenter, this was not the case here, as the woman clearly could not intimidate a larger group of armed men.
Some of the commenters also offered tips for people being harassed by the police, claiming that it’s always best not to talk in these situations. At least, the woman was not directly harmed and was able to walk out of the situation without having any charges pressed against her.
