Over the last several years, there has been a trend concerning filming inside locations that influencers or popular celebrities feel their followers would enjoy. In fact, there have been a few videos I’ve come across just today while on TikTok that revolved around this: people filming inside of a restaurant, hotel, or whatever, just to talk about their experience. However, a Chicago, Illinois, local was yelled at and subsequently kicked out of a bookstore after doing just that.
What’s really strange is that the person who was kicked out had allegedly heard about the bookstore from a different influencer who had filmed while inside. This is a true example of the fact that you can’t really believe everything you see online.
The above video was posted to the social media platform TikTok by user @whereisperdida. The account typically revolves around the owner’s daily life and things that have happened to him. This particular video wasn’t much different as he explains a strange thing that happened to them while visiting a bookstore in Chicago.
The store, called Exile in Bookville, is a relatively popular bookstore in the area, with many influencers and customers stopping in to take photos, videos, and purchase a few things from their list. However, when both @whereisperdida and the friend who invited him to come decided to take pictures themselves, the owner was not having it.
According to @whereisperdida, the owner was very smug about owning the store and, therefore, sets the policies within. When asked why they weren’t allowed to take pictures, the man allegedly exploded and kicked the two of them out. What’s worse is that the two couldn’t even say that they had seen videos and photos of the store online, which is what prompted them to go in the first place.
Chicago Bookstore Owner Kicks Customers Out for Taking Pictures
Commenters rushed to the replies of the video to give their opinion on the matter, with one of the top comments saying, “Not them taking the store name seriously…” Other posts were simply of alternative bookstores in the same area, with one such comment saying, “if you want to go to a really inclusive bookstore that’s in the city, women and children first in Andersonville is very good and they put their money where their mouth is.”
An update was posted to the comments by @whereisperdida that says, “Update: so far the negative reviews are about this and also racial bias lmao isn’t that crazy.” Hopefully, the owner is able to see the video and reach out to apologize for his alleged actions.
