While the majority of ICE incidents involved adults who were targeted, recently, ICE agents have been recorded targeting minors. In one shocking incident in Minneapolis, Minnesota, two sibling teens were seen being taken by ICE agents. They are a 15 and 16-year-old brother and sister pair, according to witnesses. In the video, a crowd of onlookers was seen having their phones out as they tried to record the incident. Several steps away, you could see a group of ICE agents pushing two teens to the ground. Meanwhile, several other agents were standing around them trying to keep the citizens away.
Yelling and shouting filled the area as the civilians protested against the arrest. Loud whistles and insults were also thrown around. The whole thing was complete chaos. According to witnesses, the Minnesota kids were coming from a doctor’s appointment when they were stopped by ICE. At one point, a masked agent even tased one of the kids, though it wasn’t recorded by the video uploaded to Reddit.
Internet users were aghast seeing what happened to the teens targeted by ICE agents in Minnesota. “Guys, it’s time to stop this no matter the cost. They WILL NOT stop unless we make them,” one user said. Many felt that the arrest was unjustified given that the two were minors; the way that the ICE agents treated the kids was also out of line. Some argued that there was no need to tase teens like that since the ICE agents were adults and outnumbered them.
“The real horror is we have no idea if they will be trafficked. There is no due process. Even bad cops know better,” one user said. Another said, “I guarantee you some of these young men and women are being sent out to other countries as CONTRABAND. Who would even know?”
The concerns about what happened to the people getting taken away by ICE have heightened, considering how ICE and DHS often prevented their families from contacting them after they got detained. Many felt worried that those people were already deported or, worse, caught in human trafficking. These fears are common among those following the actions of ICE in Minnesota.
Another user remarked that it was frustrating that nobody was trying to help the Minnesota kids, but others remarked that it wouldn’t help since the person intervening would just get slapped with interfering with an arrest and would also be thrown in jail. “If I see that with my own eyes, I will not stop myself from trying to take them all out… Can’t stay and do ‘nothing.’ I know people in the USA do their best, I say it because I’m far… Solidarity,” one user said.
