Nintendo has finally revealed some major details regarding their long-awaited online service.

The service will officially start this September. Here are the subscriptions that Nintendo is currently offering:

  • $20 for a year subscription
  • $8 for a three-month subscription
  • $4 for a month subscription
  • $35 for a year subscription (family package up to eight people)

Along with pricing for the online service, the gaming platform also announced NES-Nintendo Switch Online. NES-Nintendo Switch Online is a collection of classic NES titles and will be included in any of the subscriptions shown above.

The initial lineup of games included in this collection are Balloon Fight, Dr. Mario, Super Mario Bros. 3, Ice Climber, Donkey Kong, The Legend of Zelda, Tennis, Soccer, and Mario Bros. Nintendo will continue to announce more games for the NES collection sometime later this year.

Even though you will be able to play with friends on your favorite Switch games, you won’t be able to talk with them without the official Nintendo Switch Online app. Using that app, you can send “play invitations” to your friends and send invites “via social networks and messaging services.”. You will also receive push notifications when you are invited to a game.

Finally, the company has announced cloud saving for the Switch (only included for Nintendo Online subscribers). This will allow players to back up their saves to cloud storage. Cloud saves have been one of the most asked for features by gamers since the Switch released in early 2017.

This service is not without its problems but the overall pricing, cloud saves, and the announcement of NES classics on the Switch encourages me that the online subscription will be a great addition to the Switch.
