ICE agents are often perceived as daring individuals who show little fear, largely because they typically operate in groups, are equipped with tactical gear, and sometimes appear indifferent to standard procedures. It is common to see ICE agents being met with insults from protesters, which they usually ignore while on duty. However, it is quite rare for the public to encounter an ICE agent while they are off the clock. Such an event recently took place in Hudson, Wisconsin, where two men encountered an individual they identified as an ICE agent while driving.
It remains unclear exactly how the two men recognized the ICE agent, but they appeared certain of his identity the moment they saw his vehicle in the distance. As their cars passed one another, the man filming the encounter confronted the suspected ICE agent. The cameraman asked the individual directly if he was an informant for ICE in Wisconsin. The man in the vehicle initially pretended not to understand the question. In response, the cameraman asked why the ICE agent seemed so nervous and jokingly pointed out that they were not immigrants, having been born in Wisconsin. He further claimed to remember the man’s face from a previous encounter at the same location the week prior.
When the man continued to deflect the questions, the cameraman jokingly pulled out his passport to show it to him. This prompted the ICE agent to state that he did not need to see it. The cameraman noted that he was aware that ICE agents would be active in this specific area of Wisconsin soon and warned the man to leave his workers alone. Additionally, the cameraman questioned why the man had Texas license plates while driving around as an ICE informant in Wisconsin, eventually telling ICE in general to also leave Minnesota alone.
Online, internet users discussed the footage, with many commenting on the ICE agent in Wisconsin appearing timid without the presence of his colleagues. Many users contrasted the behavior of agents when they are masked and acting in groups versus when they are alone.
“They’re so timid when they’re not hiding behind their masks. Absolutely shameful. So proud of these guys for confronting him so confidently. More of these interactions revealing these cowardly individuals,” one user said. Another wrote, “Note how the predator, acting tough in large groups, becomes scared when they’re alone.”
Other commenters expressed frustration regarding ICE agents traveling between states to conduct operations in Wisconsin. “There are a lot of Texas plates in Northeast Wisconsin. They would make good souvenirs,” one user remarked jokingly.
