A family in Denton, Texas, decided to move out of their apartment. However, they seemingly abandoned their pet, a lovely, fluffy cat, which was then spotted attempting to find her owners. The internet now seeks justice and a home for the lovely creature, not without further controversy.
The heartbreaking story was shared by TikTok user shadowtrammel (Shadow). He, supposedly a neighbor, found a cat scratching a door. By the looks of it, it appears the door led to the family’s former apartment before they moved out.
Moved by the depressing sight, Shadow brought a can of cat food to the cat, which has since been named Artemis. The Texas man, also a cat owner, then scratched Artemis’s back, trying to get her to relax after such a traumatizing event.
In a follow-up video posted on Instagram, Shadow got a cat kennel and began looking for Artemis. She was nowhere to be found, forcing him to hop into his car in the hope of covering more ground and eventually finding the abandoned cat.
Users were left devastated and infuriated by the alleged abandonment. Some asked Shadow to report the family to the police, while others pleaded with him to take Artemis himself.
“I hate people. How could they leave their baby?” one user asked. Another one said, “My heart hurts seeing this. Please take him in, he doesn’t understand.” A third one commented, “Report them to the police. It’s illegal to abandon a pet.”
Cat Found, Brought To Shelter
Eventually, Shadow found Artemis. In a last update, Shadow decided to spray catnip on his door, thinking that it would attract her. It worked wonderfully, as Artemis quickly appeared out of nowhere.
Since the Texas man couldn’t take another cat due to lack of space, he drove Artemis to a local animal shelter, the Linda McNatt Animal Care & Adoption Center, hoping that someone would adopt the cat.
However, the animal shelter in question was labeled by many as a “kill shelter,” accusing them of euthanizing animals. Specifically, many brought up the case of Gunner, a dog that was put down after being brought to the shelter, something that its director admitted to, as per CBS News.
It appears that many users online are willing to adopt Artemis. Hopefully, this comes to fruition, and the cute Texas cat finds a family that will treasure her the way she deserves.
