The brave residents of an apartment complex in Fullerton, California, have recently expelled heavily armed ICE agents from the premises after the immigration officers failed to present a warrant. The situation was made even more tense by the presence of local police, who were seen standing by and calmly speaking with ICE, while residents were left to defend their homes on their own.
In a viral video recently shared on social media, a group of heavily armed masked men can be seen being shooed out of an apartment’s parking lot in California. A woman can be heard shouting that the residents don’t care who ICE is looking for, they’re invading private property, and they have to go.
During the incident, residents repeatedly shouted that ICE agents were breaking the law. As the agents began to leave, one of them mentioned having guns, which only made the locals angrier. Residents responded that they do not care who “has the guns” and began mocking ICE, calling the agents cowards and saying they should be ashamed of their actions.
At the end of the video, one woman can be heard arguing with a local Fullerton police officer, who sits in a car nearby. She kept asking why the police did not stop them from invading private property. While the policeman’s answer cannot be heard in the video, it’s clear that the woman was not satisfied with his response.
This is far from the only instance in which local police agencies have collaborated with ICE in California. Earlier this week, for example, a Migra Watch activist was pulled over by the California Highway Police, as immigration officers accused her of “stalking” them.
Social Media Users Approve California Residents’ Actions Against ICE Raid
The reaction to the actions of these brave California residents was overwhelmingly positive. Most commenters highlighted how effective the resistance was and how overwhelmed the ICE agents became when people actively opposed them, despite their heavy weaponry.
The resistance’s effectiveness did not prevent some people from being outraged by the incident, though. Some folks were angry that one of the agents depicted in the video did a heart sign with his hands, calling this “unbelievably shameless” and “completely heartless to their fellow citizens.” Others pointed out that the video “shows how well-trained these cosplayers are. They can’t control their emotions,” as the agents seemed really shaken by the local response.
