Even children are joining the fight against the wars being waged in the country right now. Not only are they aware, but they are also speaking up about it.  A high school student in Virginia wrote and presented a poem highlighting the salient issues the country has been plagued with.

Not money related but I feel RICH in pride of my daughter @bornrichtv “Dear American Flag” by Jordyn Taylor Jordyn is dual enrolled in TCC and her “final exam” was to perform a written work in front of the school and parents. To find out that she wrote this poem herself, prepared, and performed it in just two weeks blows my mind. She got nervous and forgot to say a part but if you pay attention she’s reciting the pledge of allegiance throughout. She almost didn’t submit her poem because she thought she would get in trouble for such a polarizing poem. They loved it! This is the little girl wrote wrote her first book at 9yrs old and published her first book at 11yrs old. I am so proud of how aware she is of the world around her and how she always finds new ways to express herself creatively. ❤️ #youthactivism

Her aunt posted a TikTok video which had a text overlay that read, “My 17-year-old was nervous, but has something to say.” The Virginia student, Jordyn Taylor, stood on stage with her right hand to her chest as she began with the first line of the Pledge of Allegiance, calling it the “false crumbs of the American dream, and to the Republic to which it stands.”

She slammed the government for neglecting the people and focusing on things that harm d them. “Pro-life, yet quick to take one without a thought…,” she said before highlighting the irony of “perfect Christian politicians” not living by the words of the Bible. “He defends the cause of the fatherless and the widow, and loves the foreigner residing among you, giving them food and clothing. And you are to love those who are foreigners, for you yourselves were foreigners in Egypt,” she read, quoting the Bible.

When Taylor concluded her poem, the hall erupted with applause. At the end of the clip, she was given time to say a few words. She shared that the recent happening inspired her to write those words, and she wanted to use that medium to create even more awareness.

Social Media Reacts to Virginia Student

Just as the people in the hall were, netizens were equally impressed and moved by Taylor’s poem. “She’s only in high school? Wow, her speech gave me goosebumps, and it is so true. It is sad that our kids have to witness this. Keep fighting the good fight queen. You’re raising amazing children,” one user wrote in the comments. “A young Jasmine Crockett! Protect this young lady at all costs!” another noted.

“Hey, tell her she made a veteran cry proud tears. She’s so brave,” a TikToker wrote, and another chimed in, “Wow!!! She brought me to tears. I love my country, and my heart breaks for what and who is tearing u apart. This beautiful soul will be an inspiration to her peers, and her words will move mountains.” A TikToker noted, “Speaking as a teacher… HIGH SCHOOL KIDS ARE PAYING ATTENTION.”

The accolades kept rolling in. “Whewww! I got chills. She did that. I love her awareness and strength! And it seems that her words were accepted by many in that room,” a user noted. “As an Army brat and a soldier myself…. 100% stand with this speech. There’s more courage and intelligence on that stage than in this whole administration,” another added. Someone else wrote, “I think she’s gonna be in politics when she becomes an adult. Which is great to stand up to all this corruption.”

A few users shared how much they actually believed in the words. “I find it difficult to pledge to the flag with all that is happening. A sadness hits every time. The same thing every time I hear the anthem,” one wrote. A last user shared, “I stopped saying the pledge 30 years ago when I was 17. And I stopped singing the anthem a year later. Our problems aren’t new, they’re just worse.”
