The price of food has skyrocketed in the United States for a variety of different reasons that won’t be laid out in this particular article. Because of how necessary food is to survive, people are still willing to pay these steep prices. However, one Tennessee man discovered that Walmart might have a little more to do with the price gouging than the public might know.

While shopping for hams at his local store, he discovered several hams that were priced over $20. When he looked at how much the hams weighed and how much was being charged per pound, he was immediately shocked by what he found. What’s worse is how many other similar hams he was able to find in less than a minute.

The above video was posted to the TikTok account @james_wrigg, which is run by a man named James Wrigg who posts about a wide variety of different topics. In this particular video, he’s at Walmart, where he notices a few odd things about the hams being sold there. He picked one up and saw that it cost well over $20 and weighed almost 5 pounds.

However, when bringing the ham to a store scale, he found that the weight was actually less than half what it was marked. He then tried to search for several other hams in that same category and was very quick to find an additional two. With this information, he decided to try to talk to a manager.

Tennessee Walmart Allegedly Price-Gouging Hams

When James was able to speak with a manager, the manager revealed that the weight and prices aren’t even placed by the store; they’re done wherever the meat itself is packaged. Some of the viewers left comments disputing this claim, with one of the top comments saying, “That many errors in the same product is deliberate. That is not accidental..“

The particular employee being questioned by James also didn’t seem to understand how this could have happened, as he reviewed the bagful of wrongly priced hams that was brought to him. Other commenters also felt that the situation was strange, with a comment left on a different video that James posted about the situation, saying, “I have over 12 years experience working in a meat department at various stores, anything sold by the pound is thrown on a scale and priced and labeled at the store. The only thing that comes in from the manufacturer already priced is a by the each item.I’m not 100% positive if Walmart does it right there in the store or if it’s done at their distribution center, but it is not the manufacturing plant that is over weighing them it’s Walmart.”

In reality, the situation does sound strange. Hopefully, whoever is behind the mismatched pricing and weight of the hams at this Walmart will be identified soon.
