The ATM is reportedly located outside Court Pharmacy, which sits across the street from the municipal building. The woman said she and her husband nearly used the counterfeit bill while paying tickets at the courthouse, which could have resulted in them being arrested for attempting to use fake currency. “Thank God the lady at the courthouse was nice,” she wrote in the caption of her post on TikTok.

According to the woman, she realized something was wrong while comparing the bills and noticed that one of the $20 notes looked different from the others. “If you didn’t know, you wouldn’t know,” she said, explaining that the counterfeit bill was subtle enough to go unnoticed without comparison. She added that she and her husband had been distracted at the time they received the cash, which is why they did not detect the issue immediately.

The woman said they eventually reported the incident to the police. “If they’re doing this to multiple people a day,” she said, “they’re making bank.”

Netizens React to the New Jersey ATM Incident

In the comments under her post about the “ATM with fake money,” many viewers shared theories about what may have caused the situation. One person said, “They got scammed and gave it to you.” Another suggested, “Maybe the people who load the machine, like Brinks. It could also very well be a mistake unless it was more than one. I worked in a bank before it happens sometimes 😫.”

Some commenters also pointed out that the pharmacy may not be directly responsible. “The pharmacy doesn’t own the ATM. They allow it to be there and get paid. But you should file a report,” one netizen wrote. Others urged the woman to escalate the issue, with one person commenting, “I hope you reported them to the police 😳 this is my city but I honestly never use ATMs unless it’s my bank’s.”
