It’s no secret that Trump’s circle is growing ever bigger in proportion to his popularity. Well, it appears Trump has no shortage of friends in Georgia‘s political seats who not only want to be on his good side but also solidify the relationship by renaming a mountain after him. The Georgia lawmaker’s proposal to rename a well-known natural landmark after former President Donald Trump is now drawing sharp reactions online as the state’s 2026 political races begin to heat up.

State Rep. David Clark, a Republican from Buford who is running for lieutenant governor, said Tuesday that he had introduced a resolution to rename Sawnee Mountain in Forsyth County as “Trump Mountain.” In a post on X, Clark praised the former president as “one of the most transformative presidents in our nation’s history,” adding that the move would honor Trump’s “historic legacy of Making America Great Again.”

However, as of this week, legislation reflecting the proposal was not immediately located in the Georgia General Assembly’s bill database, raising questions about the status of the measure. Sawnee Mountain, located in Cumming, spans more than 900 acres and is home to popular hiking trails and the “Indian Seats,” a natural rock formation that overlooks the surrounding area. The site is a frequent destination for outdoor enthusiasts in north metro Atlanta.

Apparently, the proposal comes amid a broader push by some Republicans to rename prominent facilities after Trump as candidates seek to curry favor. In Florida, GOP lawmakers have floated renaming Palm Beach International Airport in his honor, while House Republicans in Congress have proposed rechristening Washington Dulles International Airport.

People online are calling out Clark on the “cult” behavior

Clark is one of several Republicans competing to replace Lt. Gov. Burt Jones in Georgia, including state Sens. Blake Tillery, Steve Gooch, and Greg Dolezal, former state Sen. John Kennedy, former police officer Jerry Timbs, and scientist Brenda Nelson-Porter. So far, Trump has not commented on the Georgia race, though people online were quick to notice Clark’s stunt.

“Really??? We need politicians who are not out of touch with reality for Georgia. Why would you waste our taxpayer dollars for something we haven’t asked for in Georgia? We have enough REAL things in Georgia that you could be working on than dreaming up names,” rants an alleged Georgian. “There is a water treatment facility here that is near a compost company. It smells to high heaven over there in the summer. I’m sure it needs a name,” jokes another one.

Meanwhile, others have alluded to how the behavior is similar to that of a cult, “MAGA is never beating the CULT allegations….these MFers weird asf 🙄.” Apparently, even some fellow Republicans are against the idea: “This is a dumb idea. A conservative Republican, I don’t think it’s appropriate to eradicate our own history to pledge allegiance to a particular President, any President.”
