Older generations love to say kids these days don’t have the same work ethic they had growing up. That’s far from the reality of the situation, though. There are so many kids out there who know exactly what they want and how to get it. One Louisiana teen opened his own business making chocolate covered treats and he shows just how much work goes into the process. To be honest, it’s making me pretty hungry just watching it.
TikToker and treat maker DippedbyRyder (Ryder) opened his own business making treats. We’ll get back to that later. And at just 15 years old, making a few hundred from your hard work sounds awesome. In addition to taking orders for individuals and parties, he offers a chocolate-melting guide and classes on his techniques. Just one look at his TikTok videos and you can tell that he puts so much love and energy into what he does. More importantly, he’s good at it!
In a recent video, Ryder shows his audience what it takes for him to complete a $276 Paw Patrol order. And that name of his? Well, for those that don’t have young kids, Ryder is the leader of the Paw Patrol. Ryder sets out his supplies at his work table, including pretzels, boxes of Rice Krispies Treats, chocolate, and more.
When everything is set up and ready, he mixes his blue chocolate and dips each item one by one with speed and precision. Having the treats themed to Paw Patrol is also a nice touch. It makes the treats, especially with dog bones, instantly recognizable.
People are reaching out to this 15-year-old for work, and it’s not hard to see why. He makes small, dipped Oreo cookies with Cocoa Puffs on top to resemble dog bowls. He dips Rice Krispies on sticks and adds dog bones. He even makes Paw Patrol-shaped cake pops. In the end, Ryder states that it took him approximately 5 hours from start to bagging up the items for delivery.
One of the top comments gave Ryder glowing remarks, but added, “You’re not charging enough friend!”
As another pointed out, “Think about your packaging. Those bags cost,” and suggested charging at least “$400.” Given the price and time, it’s a little over $50 an hour. Even with some prep done using premade treats, the decoration is still a day’s worth of effort.
Learning the ways of owning your first small business is hard, especially when you’re young. There’s a lot of trial and error, and it’s awesome that he’s getting real-time suggestions on what to raise his prices to.
