Even if they aren’t being malicious, lazy individuals can really get on people’s nerves, especially when they’re inconsiderate. As for one upstairs neighbor in a North Carolina condo, they turned out to be both lazy and hostile towards the tenants living below. It all began when the downstairs resident noticed an ever-expanding liquid stain in the wooden balcony above them. Turns out, the second-floor neighbor was letting their pet dog urinate on the balcony instead of properly taking them outside.
The first time it happened, the downstairs tenant thought it might have been an accident. “But then it kept happening,” the renter explained on r/Apartmentliving. To an extent, it’s understandable: it’s winter; it’s cold. The neighbor clearly doesn’t want to take their dog out to use the restroom. But they don’t own the house their in, not to mention people live beneath the balcony where the dog is doing its business. Eventually, the downstairs tenant was so fed up that he went to the property manager and reported the neighbor.
After receiving a violation from the landlord, the neighbor stopped for a few days, but it wasn’t long before the dog was back to urinating on the balcony. By this point, the downstairs resident is certain the neighbor is doing it “deliberately.” Needless to say, he is rightfully furious. “I’m going to management tomorrow again and I’m not leaving until they do something about it. Because at this point it’s inexcusable,” he angrily remarks. “I’ve talked to the neighbors and they’ve been warned by management and they apparently just don’t care. This is disgusting and it’s so stupid.”
“Lazy people suck ..that’s absolutely disgusting,” remarks a commenter. “Dogs need walks, fresh air. There is a thing called, ‘Potty Pads,’ for disabled pets.” added another. As nasty as this situation is, at least it’s during the winter when the smell is more or less stifled. But when things get humid and the temperature rises again during the spring and summer, those balcony boards will have the worst stench.
Fortunately, the tenant reports with an update that management is “issuing another violation and pressure washing the balcony.” But violations aside, the pet owner’s behavior needs to change with how it cares for its dog; otherwise, it’ll be a never-ending battle between the upstairs and downstairs.
