Let’s face it: the last thing childfree people want to do is interact with others who have kids. There’s nothing wrong with it, and it’s very respectable. However, it seems some people who do have kids don’t understand this lifestyle and still want to force others to spend time with children, even if it means tricking them. An example of this happened to a TikToker in California who thought she’d be going to her friend’s birthday party, only to discover that instead of getting her “espresso-tinis,” she walked into a kids’ party full of clowns, a bouncy castle, and a face painting station.
The video comes from TikToker user jaustin327, who shared her recent situation, which involved a woman who tricked her into going to a kids’ party. Apparently, the OP’s friend was supposed to celebrate her birthday soon, so the friend invited OP to the party. Naturally, since both of them are adults, the TikToker was expecting a normal party. Instead, when she arrived, she discovered that it was a kids’ party.
The friend said that since she and her kid have birthdays close to each other, they decided to throw both parties on the same day. While this isn’t a bad idea, and it certainly saves a lot of money and the hassle of hosting twice, the truth is that you should give a heads-up if you’re having a kids’ party instead of a normal one for grown-ups.
The OP mentions how when she arrived, she saw a bouncy castle, a clown, a lot of kids running around, and even a face painting station. The TikToker complained to the friend, saying that she can’t “bait-and-switch” and just expect people to be okay at a kids’ party when that was not the original plan. Furthermore, the OP has a good point, saying that, in case someone is going to throw a kids’ party, there is no harm in announcing it before the guests arrive. It seems the TikToker was the only one who didn’t know about the actual plan, so her annoyance is understandable.
In any case, it seems a lot of other TikTokers agreed with the OP and sided with her instead of the bait-and-switch birthday mom.
“This would piss me off so bad,” said one user.
“As a parent, I agree with you. There is a difference between a kids’ party and a party with kids. One has random screaming children, and the other has your friend’s kids at the event,” commented another user.
We don’t know whether the OP stayed at the party, but her friend was certainly in the wrong. There’s nothing bad about having kids, but if you have childfree friends, just give them a heads-up before inviting them over to spend an evening with a clown and kids running around and screaming.
