Texas Teacher Threatens Protesting Children with ICE During School Hours, ‘I Hope Y’all Got Y’all Green Card’

What was she thinking?

Across the U.S., we’ve been seeing teens stand together and protest against ICE. Children see what is happening and have a voice to be heard on important matters that real families in their communities face. When students at a Texas school decided that they were going to protest, one teacher had something to say about it. But what she said was entirely out of line and students were quick to call it out on social media.

Alex (@reygmzzz) shared a viral TikTok of a Texas teacher and what she said to a group of kids protesting at MacArthur High School. During a walkout that students held to protest ICE activity, a female teacher at the school said the most horrific things to a group of kids. They were in the middle of peacefully protesting when she approached a group. She said to the kids, “Let me go ahead and call ICE! I hope y’all got y’all green card! I hope y’all do!” It’s quite shocking and alarming to hear a high school teacher say this to a bunch of literal children.

Children have the right to peacefully protest in their schools. They’re protected under the Constitution and it’s clear that these kids were doing so in the most peaceful manner. They weren’t hurting anybody but this teacher had to let her harsh opinions be known nonetheless. What Alex says is especially troublesome about what this teacher said is that MacArthur is mainly composed of Hispanic students.

Alex asks,“What in your right mind thought that was okay to say?” If she was trying to be funny, the joke fell a little flat. Alex goes on to say that he heard the teacher was put on leave or possibly quit after this incident. Another commenter claimed, “She got FIRED. She was my daughter’s and now niece’s teacher. For now they have a substitute. Apparently, she was planning to leave before but then this happened.” What a way to exit your job.

Other commenters said they would be taking a stand against this in-school racism. One teacher commented, “As a high school Mexican-American teacher in the Houston area this is very upsetting. I will be calling Monday to file a complaint.” So, whether or not her firing is legitimate, we do not know. But we do know that repercussions to this behavior could be arriving. Far too many people don’t understand that what is said on the internet never dies.
