Have you ever thought about how Hayao Miyazaki’s films, with their magical worlds and their beloved, bizarre and wonderful characters, might make for great video games? CineFix puts this idea into perspective with its new video reimagining Studio Ghibli’s critically acclaimed film Spirited Away as an 8-bit video game classic. It certainly is a fun and creative means of revisiting this charming story:

Spirited Away is a 2001 Japanese animated fantasy film, written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki and produced by Studio Ghibli. It tells the story of a somber ten-year-old girl called Chihiro, who upon moving into a new neighborhood, accidentally gains entry into the spirit world. When her parents are transformed into pigs by the witch Yubaba, she takes up a job in Yubaba’s bathhouse to find a way to free her parents and herself, and ensure their safe return to the human world.

CineFix’s 8 Bit Cinema channel has converted many other famous movies and even TV shows to 80s-style short video game films, including Inception, Silence of the Lambs, The Walking Dead and a lot more,  complete with the MIDI tracks of their original themes. These aren’t full-length movies, of course, CineFix effectively encapsulates the stories into a quick and intriguing few minutes, incorporating 8-bit, as well as some 16-bit art.

8-bit refers to the third generation in computer and video game history, which began in July 15, 1983 with the Japanese release of the Family Computer (abbreviated as Famicom, which later came to be known as the Nintendo Entertainment System, or most popularly, NES by the rest of the world) and the SG-1000, or Sega Game 1000.

CineFix is a destination for true movie buffs & filmmakers on YouTube. Their team consists of filmmakers, writers, directors, animators and their goal is to entertain, inform and inspire.
