There’s nothing wrong with parents wanting to teach their kids something at a young age, but it should never come at the expense of others. Yet, one dad in New Jersey somehow thought it’d be just fine for his inexperienced daughter, who’s clearly too young, to drive around a busy neighborhood. To no one’s surprise, she ended up rear-ending a car during her practice run. Not only did the father upset the other driver, but he also angered several tens of thousands of online users with his careless decision.
In the video shared to Reddit, the perspective is filmed from the other driver right after the dad’s young daughter hit his car while on the road. The guilty father’s irresponsibility was pretty apparent as he tried to shrug off the accident, but the man taking the video wasn’t going to let him get away. After forcing the dad to pull over, the police were called.
“No wonder our insurance rates are so high,” groaned a Redditor. “Hope he enjoyed having insurance while it lasted,” snarked a second commenter. “They’re not paying anything now and I’d think it would be hard to get insurance after proof he let a minor drive it on the road.” A third chimed in sarcastically, “This is the moment she realizes her dad is somewhat of an idiot.” “Can’t stand when guilty parties chirp back,” remarked a fourth.
While plenty of Reddit users criticized the dad in the video as being a bad father, a large group of others added that it’s because he’s a Maserati owner. “It’s a poor guy’s rich guy car,” explains a commenter. “They’re marketed to people who need a status symbol.” Of course, that isn’t to say anyone who drives a Maserati is entitled or arrogant, but this dad surely didn’t help break the stereotype.
Other Redditors point out that there are plenty of empty spaces where he could have let his young daughter practice, like in an empty parking lot. Still, the fact that she’s too young and small to drive makes her a liability on the road, endangering the lives of herself and others. The dad will probably think twice in the future before letting her drive again.
