We seem to live in a world where the unexpected has become routine. Animals wander into classrooms, farm equipment blocks the highway, but now and then, something happens that blows everything else out of the water. This week, in central Wisconsin, we got one of those stories. An ambulance, the vehicle that’s supposed to help people, ended up in the middle of a wild, almost unbelievable crime scene.
According to the reports, the police say a 37-year-old man stole an ambulance, and there was still a patient strapped inside when he took off. He then led the cops on an 18-mile chase down winding country roads. You can watch some of the footage here.
It all started Tuesday evening in Wisconsin Rapids. According to Fox 11 News, the fire department had parked an ambulance while paramedics helped a patient in the back. Out of nowhere, Benjamin L. Feltz from Nekoosa jumped into the driver’s seat and took off. One paramedic got out, the other tried to stop him, but Feltz just drove away, with the patient still strapped to the gurney.
That kicked off a wild chase stretching across several towns and pulling in officers from multiple agencies. Cops tried using tire deflation strips to stop the ambulance, but those didn’t work at first. It finally slowed down when Feltz steered onto some dirt roads and into a field near Pittsville, where police managed to get the situation under control.
During the chase, the ambulance tore down the road at nearly 90 mph, with drones tracking Feltz from above because everyone was worried about the patient inside. When the ambulance finally got stuck, and Feltz wouldn’t come out, officers moved in and arrested him. The patient, surprisingly, walked away from the whole ordeal shaken but okay and was taken to the hospital just to be sure.
Now Feltz sits in jail on a $100,000 cash bond, facing a long list of charges from reckless endangerment and taking the ambulance without permission to much more serious crimes. He will have to answer for it all in court soon.
People on social media couldn’t believe what they were seeing. A lot of users came off as stunned, trying to figure out how anyone could pull off something so reckless. A bunch called it terrifying, even dangerous, since there was actually a patient stuck inside that ambulance as it rolled along. Still, you had others cracking jokes, saying the whole thing felt ripped straight out of a video game.
Internet Reacts to Wisconsin Man’s Shocking Stunt
The unbelievable footage quickly drew comparisons to video games and action movies. “Bro thinks he’s in GTA,” one person wrote. Another joked, “Fast & Furious: Naked.” A third added, “Brooo really got into his GTA mode and just loved it out like it was nothing.”
Some viewers were simply confused. “So many questions about this video for starters how did he end up with no clothes?” one user asked. Another said, “This sounds like a movie plot, not real life.”
Others focused on the seriousness of what happened. “That’s absolutely wild. stealing an ambulance…especially with a patient inside.. could’ve ended so much worse. Glad it sounds like no one was seriously hurt,” a comment read.
One person shared a more heartfelt reaction, writing, “My heart goes out to that patient, who was already in a medical crisis and then forced into such a terrifying situation. Sending thoughts for their safety and a quick recovery from this trauma.” Another user summed up the chaos in a way that felt almost surreal: “Benjamin feltz just gave Wisconsin a Florida Man story that will be told for decades.”
Stories like this go to show that sometimes real life is wilder and way more dangerous than anything you would see in a movie. While officials figure out how to deal with the fallout, people everywhere are just left wondering how something this strange even happens.
