A man in Michigan claimed that police officers followed his wife for 20 minutes before they actually pulled her over, apparently without an explanation.
The clip was shared on TikTok by Jesse Wood. He detailed that his wife, Mariah, called him, saying that a police patrol car had been following her for the past 20 minutes. For approximately 11 to 13 miles, they just drove behind her without instructing her to pull over.
Jesse stood on the side of the road and decided to wait for his wife to drive past him, expecting the police car to be on her tail. While he sat down in his SUV, he did, in fact, see his wife being followed by the police.
“I’m gonna go and see what the heck he is following and pulling her over for now,” Jesse said. “We’re gonna go find out.”
Eventually, Jesse reached the place where the cops pulled over Mariah. He asked, “What are you pulling her over for, ma’am?” to no answer.
The interaction continued in a follow-up clip, Jesse detailed that his wife felt unsafe while recording the traffic stop. When asked, the Michigan man clarified that he was Mariah’s husband. He also told the cops that the car’s insurance was in her email after they asked about it.
“They can run it, everything’s good,” Jesse said, telling his wife to use the AAA app to get her proof of insurance.
Another Michigan officer approached the woman, and the traffic stop clip ended. Jesse, not fully comprehending what had occurred, wrote in the video description, “Pulled my wife over because they saw a Latino driving at night. It’s the only thing we can think of!“
Traffic Stop Reactions, Potential Explanation
Jesse’s first clip was seen more than 10 million times, and many users believed that the officers were guilty of entrapment. However, it is actually legal for police to follow a vehicle around for an unspecified amount of time to observe. Either way, users had issues with a 20-minute unrequested police escort.
“They’re the biggest, most well-funded gang in America,” one user said. Another one wrote, “I’m impressed that you went and waited after she called and told you and made sure she was safe.” A third one added, “Police in the US are more dangerous than criminals.”
Turns out, the traffic stop had an explanation. The Michigan woman’s vehicle had a temporary tag on her rear window. However, due to it being tinted and dirty, the police were having trouble reading and running it, Jesse shared.
