It’s hard to think of many setbacks more infuriating than having your car repossessed without warning. That’s exactly what happened to a 45-year-old Louisiana man visiting Panama City Beach, Florida, and when a towing company began attaching a cable to his car, he tried to drive off to stop the repossession, only to crash into a nearby pole on a sidewalk. The driver was ultimately arrested on multiple charges, and footage of the chaotic incident is now making the rounds online.
The video is recorded by a bystander witnessing the chaotic moment from nearby, and opens with the red saloon vehicle driving onto a sidewalk and crashing into a pole on the sidewalk. You can hear another witness shout, “Hey, somebody call the cops!” and the vehicle reverses only to plow into the same pole yet again. A bystander can be heard, saying, “Oh my god. He is done.” while another states, “We got him. We’re on the phone. Thank you.”
While his vehicle is stuck, the driver exits his car, and approaches the tow truck with his hands in his pockets. It’s hard to make out what is being said, due to the distance, but you can hear the bystander on the phone to the authorities. “We are at the old — across from the Old Navy Pier in Pier Park in Panama City Beach. There’s a gentleman that I guess he was about to get towed, and he drove over the parking lot. He’s smashed into a pole. He is now on the sidewalk. I don’t know if he hit anybody. He’s arguing with the tow truck driver right now. We just need to get police over here as quick as possible.“
Continuing to explain the incident further, the man states to the authorities on the phone, “He ran the car up on the sidewalk and into a pole. I don’t know if he hit anybody else. I can’t really tell, but he’s fighting with the tow truck driver right now so so we need to get somebody over here.” A woman with the person filming can be heard, saying, “He’s trying to tell him because he has a child with him. And don’t do this to him.” Toward the end of the footage, the person recording pans over to reveal the damage left along the side of the building.
As the video continues to spread online, viewers have been quick to share their thoughts on the alarming incident. On Reddit, one user wrote, “Crashed the front and cooked the transmission 🤡” while another added, “Saved himself a towing fee but cost himself much more in repairs. 😂” A third penned, “Jeez, it’s a Buick, just let it go already.” Meanwhile, over on TikTok, one commenter declared, “They out shopping though but can’t make their payments?“
According to a report from WJHG, the 45-year-old Louisiana man was arrested for multiple charges, though Panama City Beach officials confirm that the building he crashed into has minimal damages.
