A Texas mom was feeling frustrated when she was asked to come pick up her daughter from school. The reason why? Her outfit was deemed inappropriate for school. But this mom was left confused, wondering how exactly her daughter was dress-coded for her outfit in the first place. Kathryn (@kathryndanielle_) shared a TikTok about her interaction with school administrators at her daughter’s school. Kathryn dropped off her daughter for school one morning. But as she was leaving the gates, her school called and told her to come back inside. Why? Her daughter’s outfit was “dress coded” and deemed inappropriate for school.

The administrator at the desk tells Kathryn that she’ll have to take her daughter home to change her clothes. But Kathryn seems especially irritated by the interaction and says, “I’m gonna sign her out.”

In the next part of the video, Kathryn shows her teen daughter walking out of the school with her, who presumably looks upset. She’s wearing a long hoodie, leggings, and hi-top Converse sneakers. Kathryn explains that her daughter is “head to toe covered” and that the whole thing is “so [expletive] dumb.” Kathryn explains that the school wasn’t okay with her daughter wearing leggings, even though she was wearing a long hoodie over them. In the end, Kathryn states, “In order to not be dress coded, you gotta be friends with the teachers.”

In an update video, Kathryn shared that she kept her daughter home from school because her day was already ruined, and the whole event upset her. She asks her daughter, “Did that lady ruin your day?” Her daughter laughs and nods. Kathryn asks her daughter if she’s ever going to wear leggings again, and they discuss how “crazy” the school’s rules are. She then shares that her daughter wants to be a fashion designer someday.

Many commenters agreed that school dress codes sometimes seem a little on the strict side. One commenter stated, “Schools doing everything but teaching.” Another commenter pointed out, “My daughter got dress coded for leggings as well and as I’m in the office a teacher walked in with LEGGINGS on.” To that, another commenter stated, “If my kid has to follow a dress code, the teachers should have the exact same dress code or an even more strict one! They should be leading by example!!”
