Customers and passengers can be some of the most entitled people on the planet. They often feel that because they spend money on a service, they can do whatever they want, even if it breaks the rules. A recent incident occurred on a United Airlines flight from Maryland, where a female passenger was kicked off the plane for not wearing her headphones. If you don’t know, not too long ago, United Airlines established a new rule allowing staff to remove passengers who refuse to wear headphones or earbuds while listening to audio.
Many internet users expressed joy hearing about this, as nobody wants to suffer listening to someone else’s video or music while trapped on a plane. The Maryland passenger, however, did not seem to get the memo. She was recorded throwing a tantrum when it was revealed she would be kicked off the flight. She shouted loudly that she was just playing a video for 30 seconds at 50 percent volume and did not see how that was enough reason to remove her.
Although it wasn’t recorded on video, it seems the staff had warned her to use her headphones, but she refused. The Maryland passenger appeared to believe that this was staff getting revenge after she complained about following the rule. She also taunted them, telling them to call the police. Sure enough, a Maryland sheriff arrived at the plane and personally escorted her out.
The Maryland passenger still continued to believe she was in the right. When she saw other passengers recording her, she shoved her face close to the cameras and stated that she got kicked off for playing a video for 30 seconds. Perhaps she assumed this would make the internet side with her. Unfortunately for her, some passengers even cheered and clapped when she finally got up and left.
The internet also did not side with the Maryland passenger. Many users criticized her for being unable to follow the rule. “Good choice. She isn’t stable,” one user said. Another added, “Air rage is a genuine phenomenon, and it’s usually the kind of people who get angry after having free run of the airport bar before their flight, then being drunk and angry.”
Other users remarked that they were very happy with United Airlines’ new headphone rule and wanted it applied to other airlines around the world. “This rule needs to be expanded to the entire planet,” one Redditor wrote.
