Some people stay silent when others make insulting remarks about women, and in some cases, they may even agree just to fit in. However, a student in Illinois chose to respond differently when a classmate made a disrespectful comment about women. The boy spoke up and challenged what was being said instead of ignoring it.

After hearing the remark, the boy began recording and confronted his classmate. “What’s wrong with women?” he asked. “Say what you just said to me,” he added, but the classmate stayed silent once he realized he was being filmed. “Say what you just said about women right now,” the boy continued while recording him. The student looked embarrassed and refused to repeat the comment, seemingly realizing how inappropriate it sounded.

According to the boy, the classmate had just told others at their table that some women “need to be slapped.” He also reportedly said, “There’s a reason they don’t allow women as presidents.” After being confronted, the student acknowledged that he had made those remarks. The video ended with the boy telling him, “Oh my God, you mad? You mad crazy bro.”

While many women supported the boy for speaking up, he also faced criticism online. In one follow-up video, he shared a message from someone who claimed that the women supporting him would never want to date him. The boy responded that he was not looking for that kind of attention and simply believed that no woman should be harmed.

In another video, he showed messages from a man criticizing him because he is dating a trans man. The boy said the backlash surprised him, especially since the original situation began with him defending women against a harmful comment.

People Reacting to the Illinois Boy Standing Up to His Classmate

Despite the hate messages, many people—especially women—praised the Illinois boy for confronting his classmate. “This is the protection we’ve been asking for. But it needed to be corrected not just laughed about,” one woman wrote.

The boy replied to that comment by explaining how he handled the situation. “I won’t resort to violence for correction. I made him watch me upload this video. He hasn’t said anything like that since.”

Others also expressed support. One woman commented, “Men calling misogyny out is hot.” Another added, “never lose your spirit, seeing a young man stick up for basic human decency is truly beautiful and refreshing with all of this negativity in the world with your mindset you can go so far.”

More people continued thanking the boy for standing up for women. “he’s clearly uncomfortable. Thank you for this,” one person wrote. Another commenter said, “Men not allowing misogyny in private male spaces is the only way things will change.”

Others pointed out that the classmate’s reaction suggested he realized his comment was inappropriate. “Him not wanting to repeat it shows he knows it’s messed up,” someone wrote. One woman also added, “His face of embarrassment because he thought all the guys would laugh with him.”

Many hoped the moment would serve as a lesson about speaking respectfully about women.
