While most Americans understand that it can be dangerous to sail into the sea unprepared, many still underestimate the dangers of lakes. Popular Texas Twitch streamer Cyr was the latest to learn this after panicking during a livestream when he lost control of his boat and had to call 911 for rescue.
In a recent livestream, the influencer invited a friend for what was supposed to be a joyful sailboat ride on Lake Travis in Texas. Unfortunately, Cyr encountered very windy conditions, and the wind picked up so strongly that the pair quickly started having trouble controlling the boat.
In the video, Cyr can be seen calling emergency services after pulling the sail down, as he panicked when he realized he had lost control of the boat and crashed onto an island, becoming stranded. Eventually, the pair was rescued, and nobody was hurt in the unfortunate adventure.

Cyr’s sailing adventure received mixed reactions on social media. While some fans of the streamer were concerned about his well-being, others openly mocked him for his lack of judgment: “Who takes a sailboat with zero experience onto a windy lake?”
Others were alarmed that he thought it was a good idea to take the boat out without first checking the weather forecast: “If only there were national-level alerts about the high winds wreaking havoc today. Streamers really are the main characters.” Some folks were also in disbelief that, aside from that, no one on board seemed to have a really solid grasp on how to sail: “He has to have someone who knows what they’re doing on board… right?”
The situation could have been even worse, though. According to one social media user, “If you’re inexperienced and leave the sail up when the wind is too strong, it can snap the mast,” which seems to be exactly what Cyr was trying to prevent. Had he not done that, the damage to the boat could have been far worse.
Some people just thought that the whole episode was kind of funny, though: “When your ‘just a chill sail stream’ turns into a full episode of ‘Man vs. Wind’ and the Coast Guard becomes your new mod.”
