A Texas woman is under fire after sharing the story of how she, being a prospective adoptive mom, ended up with no baby after the child’s biological mother decided to keep him. While someone could understand her expectations and disappointment, her overly critical message earned her more than a few detractors.
TikTok user linzjacks (Lindsey) shared the story of her third failed adoption. She detailed how, after spending hours with the child’s birth mother, a social worker had a conversation with her, which is standard procedure. This is to make sure that she is, in fact, willingly giving up her baby for adoption.
According to the Texas woman, this interview occurred in front of the birth mother’s family, something she had agreed to. Lindsey called her a “yes girl,” saying that she never voiced her opinions, and she was “always looking to defer to anybody else to make decisions.”
The social worker asked questions like “Do you have family support?“, “Why are you choosing adoption?” and “Do you feel that you’ve had enough time to think about this decision?“
After finishing up with the questions, the social worker entered Lindsey’s room and asked to speak with the adoption agency counselor. The Texas woman’s husband heard both of them discuss the situation, with the counselor blaming the social worker for asking “very personal questions” that “compromised her decision.”
“I’ve been working with her for the last three months,” Lindsey recalled the counselor saying. “And she has repeatedly told me that she is not physically or mentally in a place that she can handle this.”
Birth Mom Keeps Baby, Online Backlash
The birth mother decided she wanted to be discharged that day, and the social worker told her she needed to take her baby with her for the night. Then, she said, she would sign the relinquishment papers. The very next day, however, she decided not to.
“She had decided to parent. Go figure,” Lindsey said. “And the baby that we had just spent 36 hours believing was ours never came home with us.” Lindsey’s clip went viral, but she quickly deactivated the comments. She was facing backlash for her apparent entitled behavior, with many calling her out for labeling the birth mom a “yes girl” and being fed up with her decision to keep her own baby.
Not only that, but she has been continuously posting about this incident, even sharing clips of her holding the birth mother’s baby, showing his face. That, in itself, also landed her in hot water.
TikToker saronthings (Saron) reacted to her clip, saying, “I’m glad your adoption fell through.” While she understood the “devastation” of someone taking away the chance of becoming a parent, Saron said that what the Texas woman did was not the way to handle things, calling her selfish for vilifying the birth mother.
Users seemed to agree with Saron. One said, “God bless that hospital social worker.” Another one commented, “I personally despised that I was adopted without consent.” A third netizen added, “It’s an adoption that has fallen through 3 times, I feel like that’s a sign!“
Despite the backlash, Lindsey appears to not regret anything. She is even seen dancing in a recent clip, wondering how the internet, a “wild place,” could be mad about a “stranger’s life.”
