‼️URGENT‼️ Stella needs a flight from Minneapolis, MN to Cincinnati, OH children’s hospital ASAP. Insurance has denied our pre authorization for a medical lift, claiming she is well enough to travel 12+ hours by land. She cannot even be discharged from the hospital. Her liver is overworked. We are planning an ICU stay – & need a T cell transfusion only offered at Children’s Cincinnati. I am calling on community for support. We need either a plane & pilot, or funds to get one. One day of flying – there and back. Insurance in the U.S. is a SCAM. I am terrified and exhausted. Please 🙏 share, comment, like, and see the links 🔗 in my bio 🎗️‼️ #fuckcancer #insurance #fyp #fyppppppppppppppppppppppp #fypシ

A mom in Minneapolis, Minnesota, took to the social media platform TikTok to post a video of her toddler-aged daughter being denied a medical lift to a treatment that is only offered at a hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. The video itself shows the toddler, named Stella, in a hospital room with various medical devices attached to her. The sound being used is that of the conversation Stella’s mother had with her insurance.

The TikTok account that this video was posted to, @stella.v.cancer, is dedicated to documenting Stella’s journey with childhood leukemia. According to the video’s caption, We are planning an ICU stay – & need a T cell transfusion only offered at Children’s Cincinnati. I am calling on community for support. We need either a plane & pilot, or funds to get one. One day of flying – there and back.”

The conversation being heard over the video with an insurance agent highlights the issue a bit more, detailing that a requirement still needed to be met in order to be approved for the service. According to the agent, once this requirement is met, an appeal can be filed as urgent to be reviewed within 24 to 72 hours. This time can be detrimental for someone with Stella’s condition.

Some commenters were able to provide potential options for the trip, with one person even saying, “Angel MedFlight! We used them when my insurance took over 2 weeks to transfer us to Cincinnatti Children’s! It was 100% free and absolutely incredible! 48 hours from the time I called them to when we were in the air.” Angel MedFlight is a global air ambulance company that helps medically fragile patients get where they need to go.

Another commenter was a bit more direct about next steps, saying, “We need to start suing insurance companies for negligence.” There were various other comments that were simply images of Luigi Mangione, the man accused of killing Brian Thompson, the CEO of UnitedHealthcare.

As of this moment, an update has not been made concerning the status of Stella’s medical trip.
