A New York online personality and singer attempted to interact with retired WWE wrestler John Cena by singing to him. However, he was cut shortly after, with Cena shutting him down for the randomness of the moment and possibly questioning his intentions, something he has done repeatedly in the past. His reaction sparked an online debate.

The New York man in question is Harry Daniels, who has 2.2 million followers on TikTok and has approached celebrities in the past while using his musical chops. This time around, Harry’s encounter with Cena went viral pretty quickly, garnering 2.5 million views, 272,000 likes, and over 3,400 comments.

As seen in the clip, Harry approaches Cena, who was sitting in what appears to be a lounge. He then begins to sing Taylor Swift’s Invisible String, a song about two soulmates meeting by fate, which seemed appropriate, given the significance of the encounter.

As Harry was singing, Cena, as shown in the clip, stood up and shook his hand. He said, “I’m gonna start with a hello, how you doing? Nice to meet you, I’m John,” and then he inquired about Harry’s intentions.

“Would you like to sing now?” Cena asked, and Harry said he did. “For what purpose?“

After the New York singer explained that he sings to everyone, Cena shut him down completely, saying, “OK, I’m not buying what you’re selling. I’ll pass.” Harry smiled and walked away, saying, “OK, thank you!“

In the clip’s description, Harry said that it was his fault because he had “no decorum.” He then apologized to Cena.

Cena Is A ‘Big Fan Of Consent’, Reactions

This is not the first time that John Cena has shut down people who approach him while recording. Almost seven years ago, Cena confronted internet personality MoDeen, who was following him around in a store. He asked him to be respectful and to ask for his permission before recording him.

Then, one year ago, Cena did the same with another person who was recording him without his consent at an event. He said, “I’m a big fan of consent,” and walked away, with the person recording him apologizing. Cena, however, later returned and apologized for walking away, saying that he would give him what he wanted if he asked first.

The latest clip involving Harry Daniels sparked a huge response.

Some users thought that Cena’s reaction was rude, with one user saying, “John Cena was serving horrible vibes.” Another one agreed, adding, “Wait, can he, like, lighten up actually.”

Meanwhile, other users, potentially knowing about Cena’s track record with similar interactions, were supportive of the retired WWE wrestler, with one user asking, “Bro just walked up and started singing in his face and John’s the rude one?” Some believed Cena would’ve been fine with the video if the New York singer properly asked, with one user saying, “[…] You should have introduced yourself first. He probably would have been happy to participate.”

As the clip continues to garner attention on TikTok, other social media platforms, and mainstream media outlets, users debated whether Cena was in the right. It is also clear that the topic of how online personalities seek to create content is what has also driven the clicks.

Neither Harry nor Cena has commented further on the interaction.
