A woman in California took to TikTok to share her experiences as a “bevcart girl,” offering a glimpse into life working on a golf course. What began as a fun and fresh perspective, however, quickly took a darker turn. Now, she’s using the platform to speak out about workplace discrimination she faced on the job.

TikTok user Zalaiynefwani (Zalaiya) “loved every second” of being a “bevcart girl.” But she says being Black ended up being less than awesome due to “management and the higher-ups.” Even if she made thousands of dollars for the company in one day, she said they never recognized her wins. Then, they received new management for the company where she worked. She felt like she wasn’t being treated as well as the other employees by management, who she said would act all “off with your head” with her if anything went wrong.

Zalaiya said she was the “only Black girl” and they would have meetings over every little thing she did. For instance, management called for meetings if she wore something other than a typical work polo. Even taking a day off work every now and then had management making rude comments and threatening employment.

Zalaiya noted other forms of disrespect from management, such as talking behind her back, bothering her on vacation, or promising a set schedule, only to give it to another employee at the last second. It all sounds really exhausting!

It all came to a head when they called a meeting with Zalaiya and the regional manager after she had a really great sales weekend. She expected them to give her props for the way she handled the busy weekend. However, she said the meeting was a catastrophe. It was at this time she knew, “They aren’t for me, they don’t want to see me win.”

The Internet Fully Supported Zalaiya’s Decision to Move On

With how people on TikTok reacted to Zalaiya’s video, there’s a clear dislike for a company’s HR department. Many had unkind words to say, but some offered advice and shared awful experiences with their own past employment.

As one commenter pointed out, “HR is never on the employee’s side. HR is on the company’s side they’re the ones who represent the company as a whole.” One TikTok user wrote that Zalaiya needs to “tell a lawyer.” In the same thread, a commenter added, “Sue them and make your own bev cart/golf apparel company.”

Unfortunately, Zalaiya has spoken with a lawyer, as stated in her TikTok update video, but admits a case wasn’t “viable.” She made her frustrations clear, but it continued to just perpetuate arguments, such as the company’s aversion to her recording on the job.

However, as one commenter pointed out, “When she told you not to record videos but your coworkers were still allowed to.” Although Zalaiya has seemingly met a deadend in a legal manner, she has stated she remains open to suggestions.
