Jennifer Siebel Newsom, the wife of California Governor Gavin Newsom, is facing backlash online following remarks she made that some users described as controversial.
While speaking at an event, Jennifer discussed the parenting methods she follows with her sons. Some online users later described the practices she mentioned as inappropriate for boys.
According to Jennifer, she had given her sons dolls to play with. She explained that this decision was intended to teach them that caregiving is not solely a responsibility for women but can also be part of a man’s role.
In addition to this, Jennifer said that when she reads books with male protagonists to her children, she changes the pronoun from “he” to “she.” She explained that she does this with her sons in particular to emphasize that women can be central characters and that their stories are important.
“At the end of the day, we all kind of like in this place in history maybe where we recognizing what it is to ultimately deconstruct all these gender roles and ultimately be human. That’s exciting to me,” Jennifer added.
The video is gaining attention because of Jennifer’s role as the wife of the California Governor. It has sparked discussion due to her comments on parenting, particularly regarding what boys should be taught.
