A viral video has been making the rounds on social media and features a 911 call between a Colorado husband and a dispatcher as he is attempting to drive his wife, who is in active labor, to a nearby hospital. However, he doesn’t make it and has to pull over on the highway shoulder.
The image with the recording over it was posted to the social media platform TikTok, where viewers commented on the husband’s quick thinking and dedication to ensuring his family was safe during this.
The above video was posted to TikTok and features a 911 call that appears to have been made by a husband who was attempting to drive his heavily pregnant wife to a nearby hospital. However, while on the phone with the dispatcher, he had to pull over while their doula and other bystanders helped successfully deliver the baby.
There are multiple ways in which a person can choose to deliver a baby, though a hospital can provide a safe and sterile area that is available should they need medical attention. According to the video, the baby was expected to be born with Tetralogy of Fallot, a congenital heart defect.
Within the caption, the husband thanks first-responders and hospital staff, saying, “She arrived on the shoulder of the highway while we were racing toward the Colorado Fetal Care Center, where we planned to deliver her due to her complex medical condition. Everything happened SO fast, and somehow, so beautifully. Our doula (and former midwife), Jen, was *miraculously* there with us. Calm, steady, and exactly who we needed in the chaos.“
Reactions to Couple Delivering Baby on Colorado Highway
Users went into the comments to express what a great job the father did at staying calm and collected throughout the experience. One commenter wrote, “Dad is a rockstar here, mom is a rockstar, midwife is a rockstar, 911 operators rockstars👏 amazing !!“
Other comments were focused on the baby’s condition, with another commenter writing, “I’m a Tetralogy of Fallot baby! You, mom, baby and everyone did amazing!🫶” On the subject, a different comment read, “My son had Tetralogy of Fallot with Pulmonary Atresia and delivering outside of our hospital was my biggest fear 🫣.”
According to another video posted after the one above, the family had originally intended to have a home birth before ultimately planning on going to the hospital.
The story is gaining traction due to the high risk of complications in the baby’s birth, especially given the baby’s condition. As the video continues to gain popularity, an updated video was posted by the family that shows their healthy baby after having been born on a highway.
