Idaho has been on a roll lately when it comes to some questionable laws and choices that have affected the majority of its citizens, and the latest one to make its way to the spotlight pertains to mental health. For those who don’t know, ever since the cuts to Medicaid, several people in Idaho have been affected, and among the most affected ones are individuals with schizophrenia. Now that deaths have started to pile up, Idaho is realizing it made a mistake, but people don’t forget things too easily and are outraged due to the state government’s decisions.

Idaho Cut Services for People With Schizophrenia. Then the Deaths Began. [NYT, Gift Article]

The original article comes from the NY Times, which talks about some unfortunate cases revolving around the deaths of people who suffered from their mental health. The article mentions how some patients with schizophrenia in Idaho stopped receiving home visits and the intensive care they needed after the cuts to Medicaid. All of this stems from the cuts Medicaid suffered, and it seems those with ACT were among the most affected.

However, it seems that not all is lost, as there was backlash after removing ACT, and by the looks of it, ACT will be restored soon. Yet, as the article puts it, it may take a while to get the services back to the way they were, meaning that people who need urgent medical care might still suffer until things find their footing once more.

Idaho Citizens Angry at the Removal of ACT

Even if the ACT might be returning soon, people are not letting those who voted to remove it off the hook, as several citizens in Ohio are furious at these questionable cuts.

“So sad, and the legislature knew well these could/would be the consequences, and they didn’t care. So sad and pointless!“

“Heartbreaking to read about the consequences of aggressive cuts by the State Legislature.“

A few others took their time to complain about the state, which has been on a downward spiral lately due to the many things that have affected several communities and their citizens as a whole.

“Idaho, the Florida of the West.”

“Most of us want to live in a civil society. Then there’s Idaho.“

While it seems it’s been confirmed that ACT will return, some think it might be too little too late, especially since the aggressive cuts already caused a big death toll. Still, it is great to see that people regretted the cuts and are now looking for ways to quickly amend the mistake.
