A woman in Long Island, New York, finally got the chance to try a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich for the first time in his life after undergoing a years-long allergy treatment. After taking her first bite, she was overwhelmed with emotion and cried a few tears, which went viral.

@dairyqueen10

Almost 3 years later, today I graduated from OIT (oral immuno therapy). After 23 years of having anaphylactic food allergies, im food allergy free! In 2020 I had my first anaphylactic reaction that was followed by 4 more within 5 years. Each of them getting progressively worse. I was told by a doctor in 2018 that I would never get rid of my food allergies until I met with a pulmonologist who directed me to this program. It was a long process and wasn’t easy, but anything is better then the alternative… So beyond blessed that I got to do this program. My life is forever changed and I can’t wait to try new things!!! #oit#allergies#foodallergyawareness#dairy#sesame

The woman is Kara Vazquez, known as diaryqueen10 on TikTok. Her account has a few clips, but most of them revolve around her overcoming her allergies. In this particular case, the sandwich bite garnered 3 million views, 392,000 likes, and 2,500 comments.

The video starts with the New York woman opening her bacon, egg, and cheese. The excitement on her face is evident, telling the camera what she is about to do.

She added, “I’m nervous,” before she took her first bite.

As she began to chew the food and experience new flavors, the excitement became overwhelming. She started to break down, as seen in the clip, and tears poured out of her eyes. Immediately, a woman, probably her mother, embraced her in a warm hug, ending the 26-second clip.

In her clip’s description, Kara explained that she graduated from oral immunotherapy, or OIT. After experiencing multiple anaphylactic reactions, she started the treatment, which took almost three years to complete.

She explained in a follow-up clip that her treatment consisted of her taking a small amount of her allergens every single day. In her case, her allergens were dairy and sesame. Over time, she managed to build tolerance to her allergens, eventually leading to reaching a “maintenance period.”

Crying Over Eaten Eggs

The New York woman’s first clip sparked multiple reactions online.

Some viewers shared her emotion. One user commented, “Do I know you? No. Did I cry watching you eat? Yes.” Another one commented, “Why am I crying over someone eating a bacon, egg, and cheese?“

Other users shared that they also had allergies of their own. One viewer wrote, “As someone with food restrictions/bad sensitivities, it really is this serious. So happy for you!” Another one added, “I’m scared to try new things because I have so many anaphylactic allergies.”

Since Kara’s reaction was perceived as authentic and warm, viewers empathized with her, understanding the source of her emotions. With the clip going straight to the point, it also allowed it to be distributed with ease, with people commenting thousands of times, contributing to its excellent engagement.

Kara recently shared her first time eating chocolate. By the looks of it, she’ll be doing a series of her trying food she’d never had the chance to enjoy in her 23 years of age.
