An Indiana parent has sparked outrage over a dentist who allegedly sent them a $1,700 bill that insurance should have covered. The reason was that he had forced the parent to handle the claims after claiming they were denied. However, this legwork led the parent to realize the dentist was the one who was “incompetent” and wasn’t even using the correct SSN with the insurance company.
Reddit user Hummvee69 shared this story on r/mildlyinfuriating, which accumulated almost a thousand upvotes, with dozens in the comments sharing their frustration with dental healthcare in general. Hummvee69 said they tried to reach out to their dentist several times to resolve the insurance issue, only to be met with “ridiculously nasty” and rude behavior, as well as threats of unpaid collection.
An Insurance Rep Allegedly Revealed That the Dentist Was Using the Wrong SSN
As to how OP discovered their dentist was using the wrong SSN, they wrote that they were forced to call their insurance company after being blamed for the claim denial. The representative verified that it was the dentist who was in the wrong, which eventually led to everything being fixed. Though, several in the comment section believe the dentist shouldn’t be allowed to walk away from this mistake unscathed.
“Name drop the dentist and get a new one (if possible),” demanded a Redditor, with almost half a thousand people upvoting in agreement. “Dental insurance sucks just as much as health insurance,” sighed another. “They’re not gonna be a dental office for long if they don’t know how to submit an insurance claim,” remarked a third.
Many others in the comments shared their horror stories about dealing with dental care and potentially fraudulent billing practices. “It’s genuinely insane how bad dental is,” exclaimed a commenter. As for OP, they claim they’re never going back to that dentist again.
As an added bonus, Hummvee69 left a comment explaining why the dentist allegedly treated them so badly about the whole insurance ordeal. Apparently, he had lost his office manager, forcing him to do the administrative work, but OP felt the behavior still wasn’t justifiable: “Might explain why he was in such a bad mood, but he made it personal, so no sympathy.”
