A North Carolina couple decided to announce their second pregnancy in front of their family. They were met, shockingly, with awkwardness, rendering the reaction disappointing and underwhelming. The internet thought so too, and the soon-to-be mother of two then gave some very well-awaited context.
Zoe McDowell shared the moment on TikTok. She usually posts about her daily life with her family, including her husband, Gage, and their daughter. However, their pregnancy announcement got significantly more attention than the rest of her clips. In a matter of days, the video garnered 1.3 million views, 74,600 likes, and 4,800 comments.
As seen in the clip, Zoe and Gage were celebrating their daughter’s second birthday. However, in the middle of the celebration, they decided to give their family a surprise, a “gift for everybody,” according to the North Carolina mom.
The married couple held a sign that read, “Oink, baa, moo! There’s gonna be TWO! Coming December 2026.“
Immediately, they were met with silence. A woman in pink went, “Wow!” and some people began laughing. Finally, after seconds of visible awkwardness, a man holding a cup said, “Congratulations.”
Claps ensued, and then questions followed: “The hell are you talking about?” “What’s going on?” “What happened?” “Are you serious?“
Eventually, family members walked toward the North Carolina couple and hugged them.
In a follow-up clip, Zoe explained the lukewarm reaction and even responded to some of the comments on her first video. Saying that she has anxiety when going to family gatherings, she added that there’s a “big personality mixture” in her family, and that they had the same reaction when they announced their first pregnancy.
Everybody Left Baffled by Muted Reaction
Many users were astonished by how everyone reacted to the announcement. One viewer said, “Does everyone here hate each other?” Another one commented, “The most underwhelmed group ever.”
Others, meanwhile, were not satisfied with Zoe’s explanation. One user wrote, “This video is just a weird vibe, just like the other video.” Another one added, “I think it’s time to actually see who is real to you and who is not.”
Pregnancy announcements, if done right, have huge viral potential. If something goes wrong or is underwhelming, as in Zoe’s case, it can lead many users to share their thoughts instead of their congratulations. It is no surprise, then, that her clip was pushed as much as it was.
Zoe followed up her clips with photos of her pregnancy test. Her followers will continue her second-pregnancy journey and, after looking at her comments section, will also remind her of her pregnancy announcement nonstop.
