A Maryland woman is now facing racism allegations after some opinions she shared on her TikTok around prom season and “baby mama culture”. Her take has the internet up in arms. Why? The fact that she seems to target only one specific minority in her video.

The initial video was posted by @no_mans_peace, a Maryland woman named Sasha who deems herself a “conservative goth”. Unfortunately, she privatized her video, but it was reposted by Ajay (@dudeinthedurag) to point out some important social issues. In the video, Sasha explains, “It’s prom season, which means one thing and one thing only: Hood prom.” Sasha goes on to say that “hood prom and baby mama culture” go hand in hand.

Now, what could Sasha possibly mean by this? According to Sasha, her line of thinking applies only to black people. Sasha says you can’t have “hood prom” and “gender reveals” without “baby mama culture” in the Black community. She continues that the Black community will use excessive “presentation” like fancy cars at prom, fancy dresses, and more “because this is the closest these girls will ever get to being a bride in the Black community.” She also says in the caption to her video, “Every child no matter the skin color deserves two parents and one happy home.” According to her, most Black women don’t tend to get married. Yes, she really went there.

Ajay says, “Sasha, I’m a bit curious here. Can you show us your wedding dress?” He then shows Sasha’s personal Pinterest, where she pins photos of engagement rings and wedding ideas she has in mind for herself. But none of them were used as of yet, because Sasha isn’t married. Ajay is making a point that Sasha is a White woman talking on behalf of the Black community. He calls her “insufferable” and points out that Sasha’s own mom is a “baby mama” because Sasha’s dad didn’t help raise her. He questions why she’s sharing these opinions in the first place.

Black woman stormed the comments of Sasha’s videos. Across the U.S., they share photos of themselves with their husbands and their glorious, beautiful weddings. They’re making a point that Black women do get married and what Sasha is saying is projection and “racism.” The post continues to attract comments due to its heated content and has drawn opinions from both sides of the political spectrum. It has also gone viral, with many TikTok users stitching the video and sharing their own reactions.

People continue to urge Sasha, “Let’s see your wedding photos please.” One commenter even stated, “You have to sit back and watch us black women get degrees, out dress you fashionably, have better bodies than you, fuller lips” and the list goes on and on. Another commenter also shared, “Prom, high school grad, dual bachelor’s degree, married, master’s degree, post master’s degree and my dad was at them all…”

Since the initial video, Sasha posted multiple updates. In one video, she says, “I made you mad. Now prove me wrong.” She tries to re-explain to her audience, “The reason that we see a rise in hood prom, hood graduation, hood baby showers and stuff like that is because of a lack of emphasis of having the father in the home.” She then comes for low-income communities and says young girls in these communities “don’t ever really see themselves becoming brides.”

In the end, TikTok came for Sasha. They let it be known that Black women do get married and they do ultimately lead fulfilling lives.
