An Oklahoma man’s video gained popularity after he decided to have a heated conversation with his dad. The context that led to it? His father was going to berate him over his choices when it came to schooling and use religion as the scapegoat for his anger.

Posted by TikTok user Spamiana52, Rowdy, posted a TikTok video of a conversation he recently had with his religious father that left him infuriated. He decided to pick up his phone and record after his father told him, “You went to college, think you got an education, and left God behind.” Rowdy tells his dad he doesn’t want to hear that, saying he “voted” for Trump and that’s bad enough in his eyes. To really drive home the point, he tells his father, “You voted a man in office who just ‘AIed’ himself as Christ and sent it to everyone.”

@spamiana52

I would normally never post private conversations between myself and another, but this has all become too much. From my dad telling me I left for college and walked away from God, to him defending the president of the US. It’s that deep. I was LIED TO for YEARS by the church, school, and parents. Meanwhile, I thought I could trust and lean on the words of Christian’s. Turns out they are the group of people to hurt me the most. To do the WORLD the most harm. Teaching kids how to justify slavery because it was Gods “divine plan” is disgraceful and disgusting. Teaching kids that’s the world speaks multicultural languages because the Tower of Babel is EMBARRASSING. FORCING young kids to believe fully a man being swallowed by a whale and then spit out to go preach? Meanwhile the women in the Bible are constantly stepped on, Seen as less than, and used as an example of sinful living. TO BELIVE that three men were burned in a fire and survived but my dads own father died in a fire and all my life that was “gods will” as well. IM DONE. I could no longer live in a life where I was throwing logic out of the window day after day. The more I began to seek out truth, the more I expose the darkness that I let invade my life for far too long. You don’t have the knowledge to the whole world because you have the Bible in your hands. Wake up. #deconstruction #christianity #lies #awakening

Rowdy goes on to tell his dad he wanted his education and now he’s a “deconstructed Christian” simply living his life. He told his father that he wanted to “learn how to critically think” through college. He also says his younger brother shouldn’t be forced into a situation where religion means everything and he feels held back, not while there are “resources” available for his brother to have everything he needs, especially when it comes to therapy.

His father tries to backtrack and tell him he’s allowing Rowdy to live how he wants to live. But Rowdy tells him he’s not actually allowing him to live by talking badly about the LGBTQ+ community and engaging in other “hateful beliefs.” Rowdy clearly had his chance to finally say what he wanted to say and he said it. His father, on the other hand, had little to say other than “I still read my Bible…”

In the caption of his TikTok video, Rowdy adds further context, stating, “I could no longer live in a life where I was throwing logic out of the window day after day.” He also stated, “I was lied to for years by the church, school, and parents. Meanwhile, I thought I could trust and lean on the words of Christians. Turns out, they are the group of people to hurt me the most.”

How People Reacted to Rowdy’s Rant on Christianity

Online, Rowdy’s video attracted numerous commenters to not only praise the way he handled his father, but to share their own stories about their Christian family members, several of whom were parents. “Your sibling is so lucky to have someone like you in their life,” one of the top comments read. Another top comment came from a dad, which Rowdy liked on TikTok: “As a father, I am proud of you.”

One TikTok commenter shared an unfortunate rift that’s grown between her and her father. “My dad constantly talks about how great we used to get along before I turned 20,” she wrote. People speculated it just so happens to be right when she became an adult and “couldn’t control” her anymore. “It’s weird how they think like that,” a viewer wrote in response. Others remarked on similar experiences, one of whom was from the Bible Belt of the U.S.

Several viewers also gave Rowdy props for being a good older sibling. “As another older sibling, I applaud you,” wrote one viewer, with a second adding, “As the youngest, I second this.”

Rowdy left a comment on his own video, thanking everyone for their encouragement. In the thread, a TikTok viewer even offered to buy him coffee and a snack. Clearly, his message resonated with so many people who feel equally victimized by their religious upbringing.
