A brewery in Wisconsin is facing backlash after a Facebook post in which it expressed dissatisfaction that Donald Trump was still alive following a reported shooting attempt.
The post comes after reports circulating online of a shooting incident at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington DC which was widely discussed and spread across social media due to the seriousness of the situation.
In the controversial post, the brewery, named Minocqua Brewing Company, allegedly expressed dissatisfaction that the reported shots did not hit Trump. The post referenced the incident in a way that many readers found highly inappropriate. It also alluded to the idea of offering a free beer day if Trump had been killed, which contributed to the backlash the brewery received online.
“Well, we almost got #freebeerday. Either a brother or sister in the Resistance needs to work on their marksmanship or he faked another assassination to get a positive news cycle. We’ll never know. Regardless, we stand at the ready to pour free beer the day it happens,” the post read.
The comments under the post shared similar sentiments, with many users expressing skepticism about the reported incident and suggesting it may have been staged. Once the post circulated beyond Facebook, it drew significant backlash online, particularly from Trump supporters who expressed outrage at the tone and content of the brewery’s message.
Those who opposed the post quickly identified the owner of the brewery. It was alleged online that he is running for State Assembly District 34 as a Democrat, and this claim further intensified the backlash surrounding the post and the broader discussion that followed.
