There’s a growing list of former Trump supporters who have loudly announced their departure from the MAGA movement, and some of them are even triple Trump voters. The most notable one as of late is even a Hispanic business owner in Texas who now deeply regrets all three votes for Trump after the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency (ICE) won’t stop targeting and deporting his fellow Hispanic people.
Mario Guerrero is the businessman in question, and he’s also a third-generation Mexican-American and owner of Rich Heritage Construction, Inc. He says ICE’s recent actions have crippled the region’s construction industry. In interviews and public statements, Guerrero described job sites being emptied and projects stalled as workers stayed home out of fear.
“Workers have stopped showing up, and once-busy job sites are now sitting empty,” Guerrero said. In one instance, he claimed, a crew pouring a home foundation in the Rio Grande Valley was detained mid-job, resulting in thousands of dollars in losses, interview courtesy of Houston Chronicle.
The broader economic impact has been significant. 92 percent of construction firms nationwide reported labor shortages in 2025. Nearly a third attributed difficulties to intensified immigration enforcement. One Texas concrete company reportedly saw business drop by 70 percent following raids, leading to bankruptcy.
Texas has long relied on immigrant labor, particularly in construction, where foreign-born workers once made up roughly 40 percent of the workforce. Industry estimates suggest that hundreds of thousands of new workers will be required in 2026 alone to meet demand.
Too Late for the Business Owner?
Guerrero emphasized that many of the workers being detained are long-time residents or legal laborers with deep community ties. “These are people who show up at dawn, work long hours, and help build our communities,” he said. The Hispanic business owner lamented, “I did not vote for this. I wanted the ‘worst of the worst’ deported, not people with no criminal records who are contributing to the economy.”
The backlash has extended beyond business concerns into politics. Guerrero warned that continued crackdowns could alienate Hispanic voters, a key demographic in Texas. “If this continues, nobody’s going to vote for you anymore,” he said, referring to Republican candidates.
Despite Guerrero’s regrets, however, people online weren’t quick to forgive him for putting Trump in the office. One Reddit user even pointed out that Guerrero is supposedly as bad as Trump, “You happily wanted this to happen to other people until it affected you. Yeah, I think that makes you the worst of the worst.” Instagram commenters also chimed in on the matter, telling Guerrero the irony of his choices, “Mario. Por favor, Mario. You got exactly what you voted for.”
