A Tennessee father was none too pleased when he allegedly discovered his daughter had been criticized at school for taking a Monster Energy drink to class. While this might initially sound like it came from petty school staff, Hellohellocat, the science teacher responsible, claimed her class had a strict “water-only” rule that the daughter was breaking. During their argument over whether she could bring her energy drink, the teacher called it “poison,” after which her dad emailed the principal over it.
Hellohellocat posted the whole story to r/Teachers, where much of her content was removed by Reddit moderators. Her entire account had been deleted as well, with little explanation besides her post’s edit: “The angry parents found this one, I’m out!” Her deleted original post gained around 6K upvotes, but her “Update” post almost hit 30K views within a day, with many readers siding with her.
Redditors Slammed the Dad for His Reaction to His Daughter Being Criticized Over an Energy Drink
“The is dumb… parents are ridiculous being upset about something like this…” sighed one commenter. “This is why teachers quit. When it’s stuff like this but repeatedly throughout the day for the entire year,” remarked another. Other Redditors pointed out how dangerous energy drinks like Monster can be for children and accused the dad of being irresponsible.
As to why the science teacher told the daughter her energy drink was “poison,” it wasn’t just related to the classroom rules or the girl’s health. It was personal. Hellohellocat revealed that she had undergone a series of cardiac issues that she claims were caused by drinking energy drinks frequently. “I ended up going to the ER,” she wrote.
The teacher also added that the student she was arguing with was allegedly failing her class. That said, she claimed that she hoped the principal would call for a meeting with the dad so she could ‘discuss’ his daughter’s grades before talking to him about the energy drink comment. Hellohellocat also accused the dad of not responding to her eleven calls and emails over the past year.
Some users share their concern that this Tennessee dad might be a negative influence on his daughter. “Sounds like she definitely has learned behaviors from home. Such a shame,” said a Redditor. “As a parent: OP teacher has done exactly what they should, and this student’s father has failed her,” chimed in another.
Unfortunately, unless this science teacher shares what happened with the student and her dad under a new Reddit username, no one will know what became of the meeting since she deleted her account.
